Suspension replacement

My 100k miles 1995 Maxima LS has a leaky original front right shock.
Should I replace it ??
What is the procedure to replace the shock ??
What is a good replacement cost ??
Is this a weekend project ??

Replace it.

The procedure is very simple. Get a Chiltons manual from the book store. If you have regualr tools, it will take you about an hour to change out (if the bolts come off, and no tools break ) If you really want to do it, i have some pics i can send you.

A shop will probably charge you 1 hours labor and probably $75-$100 for the part (if they order it for you)

If you're good with a ratchet, you can DIY.

Re: Suspension replacement

Thanks all for the encouragement. Please send the pic and all. What and where should I get the special tools ( i.e. Spring Clams and others ) ?? I live in Southern California. Any additional tips is appreciated. My car experience is limited to oil and filters changes. I did a brake job on a VW 25 years ago. I just though this is a good opportunity to get my 16 years old son into a project together.

Specifically, do I need the spring compressior for Strut Assembly GR-2 L3000-58509 and Strut Assembly GR-2 L3000-58510 ?? If not, please give recomendation on a model that do not require the spring compressor.
The project goal is to get a smoother ride.
What is the wisedom of replacing the spring as well ??
Should the strut mounts be replaced ??
Should the rear shock be replaced as well ?? Please give basic on suspension theory.
What does a set of coilover do for the car ??

Shocks/struts should always be replaced in pairs. Both front or both rear. This will help retain safe handling.

Also, there is no such thing as a 1995 Maxima LS. The only trim levels are GXE, SE, and GLE.
