My '99 Maxima Owner's Manual says the fuel tank capacity is 18.5 gallons. However, modern fuel tanks have an expansion baffle at the top of the tank. This makes it difficult to fill the tank to it's theoretical capacity.

My specs say 18.5 gallons. When I feel dangerously low on gas and fill up the tank, the pump stops at 16 gallons.

Yeah Kevin's right when I run on E for a long time I fill up and it's 15.5-16 gallons at the most. Of course I've never ran out of gas either.

18.5 gallons!

18.5 gallons folks, just check your owner's manuals--how hard can it be? You'd be amazed how much you can learn by perusing over it for an hour or so. And to reiterate what emax95 says, 3rd/4th/5th gens have the exact same size tanks--18.5 gallons. Have a nice day.

UPRD ECU

You have about 3-4 gallons left when the E light comes on, so no fear. Of course if you have a UPRD ECU, that won't last long, because you will be gunning it and enjoying your new found HP! There are enough people on this thread with 95-97 Maximas to put us over 25 people. Check it out http://www.maximadriver.com

Thats wierd. I run my 01 maxima down to a little under a quarter of a tank and itll take 16.5 gallons easily. When Im on E I get a whole 17.9 gallons in the tank before it stops.

The official capacity listed in the owners manual is about that much. About 18 gallons.

The fuel pump is cooled by the gasoline its immersed in. Super low fuel levels can cause pump failure due to overheating.

Yea I try not to run it low often. Especially since it has 300k miles idk how long the fuel pump has left anyways lol

You just replied to a 22 year old thread. This has to be the record for oldest grave dig. Not to mention you're in the wrong forum as you have a 5th gen.
