Please Save Me !!! !!! !!!

Okay, so my Max is running like a fat pig after a big dinner. I mean it's ridiculious. I just got back from Lebanon Valley here in NY and my times were too horrible to even post. I have a 98 GXE 5 spd w/ 116k mi on it. K&N Intake, STILLEN Y-Pipe, Hi-flow cat, A'PEXi WS Cat-Back...I SHOULD be in the 14's right?...but I'm not even close really. What should I look at to correct whatever the hell problem my car is having? I'm going to replace the clutch cause there is very minimal slip right now which I'm sure is one cause of the problem but not the whole problem in my mine. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

You're going to give a few more details besides "it's slow".

Maybe you are a slow dirver.

Check for any ECU codes.

What were the times? What were your trap speeds?

There's nothing wrong w/ my driving;-) In Naiperville, Canada not even a month ago my trap speeds were 2.2-2.3s and ran the 1/4 in 15.2-15.3 *still slow but I explained it away to myself because my clutch was a little slippy* Now, not even a month later, my trap speeds fell to 2.5-2.6s w/ the same 2k rpm dump and .5-.65 r/t running the 1/4 in 15.7-15.8. This sucks:-( I just put Denso Iridium plugs in and have been told there isn't much to "tune up" in my car... As far as ECU codes...wouldn't my SES light be on? Thanks for the help so far.

The ECU can still have codes- even if the CEL (SES) isnt on. For instance, the knock sensor does not trip the CEL....

So get out there, and check em!

Also, the plugs may be the culprit. Switch back to OEM NGKs...

those are 60 foot times.. not traps speeds.. BTW those are below average for a 5 speed

your trap speed should be in the 90 MPH area +/- 1 or 2 MPH

so what are your trap speeds again

A knock sensor will slow the top end down and NOT throw a SES light

Trap speeds were around 90mph avg...92mph was high 88mph was low...I think I do actually have a knock sensor code stored...any idea how to go about resolving that?

Thanks

Justin

I have an auto and get 2.3 on a consistent basis with 2.2 a few times and 2.1 rarely

I see 2.0 being the best and most often

I have seen 1.8

2.2 to me, seems slow.. I do not own a 5 speed so I can't tell you how to launch it

Ok, the best 60 ft time I have gotten was 2.315(I ran a 9.848 at 71.647 in a 1/8 mile track). I have had the CEL on for a while now but I was only pulling up the speed sensor code until recently when I noticed my knock sensor code( 0304 ) was being pulled up after I tried to reset my ECU and after it came back on, I pulled codes and found the 0304 also. My recent 60ft times have been roughly .1 slower and I have had erradic accelaration at low rpm and light gas touch. I posted a thread about this awhile ago and a plan on bumping it up each time I tune up the car to get the proper diagnosis. I have to get out of debt first though, but here are the things I plan on doing in order(updating each time 'cause several people have had similar problems)...

Double check for exhaust leak once I get it on a lift at work this weekend(exhaust has been farting when cutting the car off and I think I might be hearing a hissing from that area)

Fuel Filter
TB clean
Test resistance of O2 & Knock sensors
Plugs(I only have 54k so this will most likley be last).
Plugs(only 54k so this is much later)

And btw I usually launch at about 1200 RPM(give or take 200 rpm) I usually get a perfect launch around there.

Knock sensor how to with Pictures.

Here are some pics of a knock sensor change.

My car was feeling slow, and I pulled a Knock sensor code but no CEL ever came on. Best $130 performance enhancer I have ever purchased!
