Humming noise while driving?????
Humming noise while driving?????
Got a 97 GXE, Automatic. When driving, a humming noise comes from the front. I hear it at 10 mph. At around 40 its still there but other car noises dampen it.
-Noise the same dispite surface of the road.
-Noise the same if I put the car in neutral while driving (Trying to eliminate the transmission).
-Noise the same after I rotated the tires.
Kinda sounds like the noise my rear drive ford mustang use to make. Then, the rear axle needed fluid.
Any ideas???

Sounds like a wheel bearing. Does it get louder if you go around a left or right sweeping turn? If it gets louder on left sweepers, then it's your right bearings and Vs-Versa.
I would agree that it sounds like a wheel bearing. I had my left front one go, and it used to sound like a pulsating hum that would change with speed. That and a temp sensor have been pretty much the only things to ever go wrong with the car over the course of 153k miles, knock on wood!
Does anyone else notice a low, quiet whistling noise that changes with speed? I think it's coming from the transmission - I find it most noticible between 30 and 45 MPH when in overdrive (Automatic). I'm not concerned, it's been making that noise since it was new, just curious what it is.

it can possibably be the belt is either to dry. try putting some belt dressing on it and the pullys. if you still hear the hummmmmmmm it mostlikly one of the bearings are going out on either the waterpump, alternator a/c compressor.
but check to make sure the belt is in good condition w/o any cracks in it. look for the cheapest diagnostics first.
good luck!

got the same problem, but I like the sound, makes it sound more like my SOHC 3.2CL-type S. My experience is the pitch of the noise increases with RPM, just like the sound u'd hear from a tweeter out of a stereo system with engine radiation noise, but perhaps less noticeable. I then pinpointed the fact the noise is coming from fan outlets. If I turn off the fan and de-select any blowing modes, the noise disappeared. For now I can tolerate it being there.

My 1999 Maxima gets squeezing noise while driving but the noise stops when applying brake. I have changed brake pads 3 years ago without noise until recently. I checked brake pads. They are only 2/3 worn, the alert metal part has yet touched the rotor. Does anyone know the problem? Thanks
