Question about cut wires under my dash...

Hello everyone,

I just have a quick question. Yesterday, I went over to Pearl96Max's place so we can install my alarm and remote starter, and we also started on the stereo install. When Don took off the dash panels under the stereo, he noticed that the 7 wires going to the plug that the dealer uses for diagnostics were all cut. It also appears that one of the wires is missing.

The plug is right next to the fusebox, and the dealer uses it to get the codes from the ECU when your CEL is on. Don and I couldn't come up with any logical reason why anyone would cut these wires. The plug is sitting there with 7 wires coming out of it, and then there is one missing from the other part.

I'm just wondering if we should attempt to re-connect these wires, or is it not even worth it to bother? It won't cause a CEL will it? Now I'm beginning to wonder what the previous owner did with the car.

I don't know a much about that plug; I assume it is where the dealer plugs in the Consult diagnostic machine. From what I have seen in the FSM, you can get about 10 times more info out of the Consult than you can from the flashing signal of the ECU. I would suggest you try fixing it.

Thanks. I'll have Don take a look at it when I go back to his place. He knows more about that electrical stuff than me.

Later,
