The Haynes manual is preferred here over the Chiltons for basic stuff that you mentioned (changing brakes, filters ,etc). They have pictures and are written for basic mechanics, but the Nissan FSM is more for the advanced user. $40 is a great price though; I paid $90 for mine. The FSM has torque specs for everything and helps a lot for advanced things including troubleshooting electrical items.

I have the Haynes and Nissan FSM, the Haynes is better than the Chilton's but the Nissan FSM is the way to go. At $40 you can't go wrong, you always be able to get your money back if not make a few bucks. I paid $119 for my 97 Nissan Maxima FSM shipped. The FSM has 1583 pages the Haynes 300 or so pages! Your choice.
Be well!!!!

I have the chilton manual for my max and a haynes manual for another car. To me, the haynes seems much more detailed. The chilton manual doesn't go into depth. It's just like remove this, replace that, and your done!
