what kind of synthetic oil (weight/brand) is best

Hi guys, I am finally due for an oil change (first one w/ my max ). I want to go w/ synthetic oil because the previous owner used that and I've learned that it burns alot cleaner. Now... my question is what kind of oil should i be using. I searched this topic on the forums and I came up w/ a good one in the 5th Gen Forum ( i am not sure if it matters whethere it's a 5th gen or a 4th gen). Alot of ppl seem to be running 5w-30. I drive alot on the highways... and lookin for something w/ performance. What's the deal w/ 10w-30, is that better for what I'm looking for? I've also learned that the weather conditions matter... and i live in sunny california where the weather is nice here so that shouldn't really matter...

SO basically, what kind of oil should i be using (weight/brand)

THanks!

btw- I was surprised this isn't covered in the faq... I would like to write up about it but I don't know much about the subject. Perhaps this is something good to add to the faq

Check the manual

Check the manual as far as which viscosity you should use and definetly go with a synthetic oil. 5W-30 or 10W-30 should be fine depending on where you live. I've used Mobil 1 for the past several thousand miles and its wonderful....best synthetic oil in the world.

If you use SuperTech synthetic oil, I wouldn't make your drain interval too long.

Do you have a baseline analysis of any of the SuperTech oils? Their filters impressed me on visual inspection and are made by Champion. The oils are still an unknown.

Of course not, I would have sent it to you if I had. I think the Supertech filters are just rebadged STP's from Champion. I don't think the oil is just rebadged "as is" in this case. My statement above is based on my belief that for the price of a quart of Supertech synthetic, the basestock itself has got to be pretty cheaply refined, and the additive package must be pretty skimpy as well. If it is, I would love to know who makes it.

So, is your next post going to say something like if you don't have proof please refrain from making such posts in the future In any case, now I'm going to be doing some more research on it.

No, I'm just curious. SuperTech, as you said, does equal STP. $1.97 for the S3600 filter, the oversize app for my VG30E and also works on VE30DEs.....too bad it doesn't work on VQs......

That's my new filter in the 94.......
