Really poor gas mileage..HELP

Hey guys, today I finally calculated my mileage and it's a crappy 20 mpg! My ride only has 43k on it. I've been using 93 octane all along from either Mobil, Exxon, or Amoco. Replaced fuel filter last year. Would it be my dirty K&N filter? btw I cleaned it last Spring. Any suggestions on what I can do to better my mileage.

I get about the same mileage if I do a lot of short trips; to and from work and around town, etc. However I get about 28mpg when on the highways, so I just chalk it up to all the starts and stops. I've got a stock 97 SE.

And I use JMileage on my pda to calculate it. Kinda geeky but it's very useful for tracking mileage and such.

Hop on the Hyper Ground group deal that I'll be running soon. I've noticed a increase in fuel economy, but let me fill up a few gas tanks to get an average increased figure. I'll keep you posted but in terms of what you can do right now, I'd look into your air filter. If one of your wheels is excessively dirty with brake dust, you might have a dragging brake pad.

there are too many variables......... big rims, dirty intake, possibly bad knock sensor, the type of driving you do, how long u drive the car in a day, etc - try to see what your highway economy is
