Supercharger =Gas Hog!

Man-o-Man!
it seems like my car is going through an awful lot of gas since the install!
i put like $10.00-15.00 every 2-days.
It's a 3.33 pulley
1-step colder plugs at .040
Automagik
Cai
i'm not sure what FMU disc is in there maybe 4:1
no exhaust upgrades yet.
of course i step on it more than before but not that much!
the a/f meter stays in the rich(green)side until it warms up but then
only shows 2 bars(amber)
Running rich?
thanks in advance

well it really picks up quite a bit more than it used to.i love the sound of it but without the VB Mod or Ypipe yet it's not up to it's full potential-Gotta open her up a bit
next mods will be next week /Trans cooler/then Y pipe and the rest all the way back.
i'm only seeing about 5-6 pounds on my autometer gauge

You should definitely see more than 5-6 lbs of boost, even though you are running all stock exhaust.
With my 3.33" pulley, I am consistently getting 8 lbs of boost.
I have a Y-pipe & Manual tranny. It could just be your gauge, no biggie. However, check the deflection of the rubber belt that moves your SC. You may not have it tight all the way...

My mileage has gone down about 50 miles a tank...on average.
I used to get 350 a tank before. Now I get anywhere between 270 & 320...mostly suburban driving.

Update.....it was running really sluggish today
I figured out 2 codes, ever since the S/C was installed the CEL has been on.
The codes were 0304(Knock sensor)
The other was 0210 (fuel inj/left bank lean)
Reset and tried again 0505(no problems found?)
the light stayed off after that anf the A/F ratio stayed more in stoich.
what should i do? wait a couple of days and see if the light comes back on
Thanks in advance

How many miles does your car have on it with the factory knock sensor (I'm assuming?)? If the code was tripped, I'd probably replace it. It might be retarding your timing for no good reason (if it's out or on its way out, it might be overly sensitive). I suppose you could test by disconnecting the KS and taking a short drive or two, seeing what the difference is in both butt dyno and your autometer/etc - the danger in running like this is pinging. I'd think running a S/C, you'd use high-octane fuel, but detonation can still occur, particularly on hot days and/or on steep inclines, etc.

If you really want to, you could test the KS:

O.K.Thanks,
The wife just called and said the light came back on
it's got 71,000 on it.
usually i only use vermont state 93 octane.(not sure which brand but alot of guys swear by it.)
something in Ma gas screws stuff up from what i've heard.
i guess i will try what you mentioned today.
then see if i can get a KS to install.
Thanks again, any other suggestions are appreciated

knock sensor--update

unplugged the harness, cleared the ecu, drove it and the light turned back on after a while,i will read the codes again.
the only thing that gets me is that there was never a problem like that until i put the supercharger on.

Knock sensors have a hard life though, they are made of plastic and sit on a 400 degree block, get a lot of vibration from the moto from bumps etc. They are bound to go eventually. It will improve your gas mileage though when you replace it. Also give you back some lost power.

yet another update!

well,
after much frustration,i took out the new autolites and threw in the
old ngk's and it runs like a champ!
we drove about 40 miles today and the light didn't come back on(YET)
when i took out the autolites the front-3 had black carbon all over them.
the rear 3 looked like they were working right.nice and clean anyways.
now,if the cel doesn't come back on i will know for sure it was the plugs.
gas mileage also went back to almost normal compared to the last week or so.
i hope this works

the KS code is usually a throw off code for other codes.. its the left bank lean you should pay attention too.. chances are.. those plugs you had in wern't working good enough for that cylinder and that caused the code.. when you are running much higher than normal hp for a car.. dont' go skinny on plugs.. that could cost your engine to blow.. i dont' care if they were free or you got a deal.. you don't go cheap on parts when your car is boosted or running NOS

and for running the 3.33 pulley.. you might want to go two steps colder.. get the copper instead of the platinum.. they have better spark.. they just don't last as long..

BKR7E i think it is
