I have noticed for about the last couple of weeks that when i'm at a stop i hear a whistling sound but when i rev my engine past 1000 rpm the whistling goes away but when it drops below 1 the whistling begins again, anybody know what this could be.

 

I think it has to be the alternator. My mom's 97SE makes the same sound, and Sexima's car makes the same sound too.
