Are the Y-pipe power gains worth it with Stock Cat and Exhaust?

I've SEARCHED! but haven't really found an answer to this one, anyone that has seen this question before please post the thread link.

I'm considering a franken car intake and a Warpspeed Y-pipe for my performance mods. I want to know if I will see significant gains with those while keepin the cat, exhaust and muffler stock.

it's definately worth it! 14.3s are possible with a stock catback.

That looks like a good Y pipe/intake combo. I've actually heard running the stock exhaust/cat is actually the better way to go. Still looks and sounds stock, but only lose like 1 or 2 HP by not having aftermarket exhaust. I would keep the exhaust stock

Warren (veetec) on the board dynoed a 16 hp increase with a y-pipe only, nothing else was changed at the time. It is definately worth it.

I have a question that maybe you all can answer, the warpspeed Y is 2.5" at the collecter, isn't the stock cat and the rest of the exhaust 2.25"? How does a 2.5" Y just bolt on with no fitment problems, and if I got the Y and cat at the same time would it be a simple driveway bolt on that would take maybe 2hrs?

Sounds good...how many total sensors are on the Y itself?

I didn't install it so I am not 100% sure. But there are definitely 2 O2 sensors on the Y-pipe itself.

Problems w/resonator on lowered ride height

This is a little off the subject, but relevent. I lowered my car, and the resonator after the cat bottoms out often. I was planning on getting a y-pipe, but also seriously considering getting an aftermarket b-pipe because of the decreased clearance. Would you guys recommend changing the b-pipe also?

A b-pipe gives some gains on the top end because we have a very restrictive section right before the resonator. They have a picture on http://www.warpspeedperformance.com/bpipefix.htm
There is also a b-pipe fix if you dont want to get the whole b-pipe. I believe it gets rid of the resonator too so it will help your ground clearance.

If you get the resonated B from warpspeed the resonator is a lot smaller and higher off the ground. But the oxogen sensor is the lowest point now and looks a litttle scary.

I'm not sure how to explain this... the only way i can wrote it without showing you is that the hole is bigger but the connecting piece at the end is much wider so the holes still match up. get under your car and look, you'll see what i mean.

The exhaust parts bolt together with flat flanges and gaskets, if there is a small diffence in diameter it should not matter.

The stock b-pipe on the 97+ has a tight S-bend behind the cat and the crushed area behind the resonator. The 95-96 stock B has only the crushed area behind the resonator, no S bend. So a 97+ may see more gains from this but a 95-96 would benifit too.

Is it absolutley necesary to get teh B pipe with the Y? I'm thinking of just trying the Y only along iwth the frankencar. Also you live by rutgers right? did you go for the Steel one? MIG or TIG? also where did you get it installed?
Thanks

The Y pipe, cat, B-pipe, muffler section...are all separate pieces

from custommaxima

I say get the Y pipe and intake first and see how you like them (you will).....Yes, I live near rutgers, actually 1 block from Rutgers College. I got a WSP Stainless TIG. I got it installed at Mufflex in Trenton www.mufflex-performance.com

I just installed a PR CAI, a Stillen Y and an ACT clutch as my first mods. I could not believe the difference. Everyone who has driven my car since the mods has returned with an ear to ear grin on their face.

I ran 14.4 @ 96.5 mph with ONLY a y-pipe, down from a 14.8 @ 92.6 stock. Seems pretty worth it to me I've got a bunch of mods now and still stock exhaust. Exhaust will be my last mod. (ECU and UDP first).
