I went to go race a little but on the highway with my friend, he has an rsx type as with injen intake. Its pretty fast, when we raced he took me right off the start! It just wound out real quick and i was still just getting started! What the hell do i do to get some low end HP...im weak in the low end range! I just cane beleve how fast it got the redline range!

Well from reading your profile, I see you have a 95 GLE auto. You need some mods to beat the RSX (Not Altezzas ) You really don't have any HP mods to keep up with him but if you got an intake and Y pipe, it would help, I'm not saying you'd beat him, but it would be closer. Its harder for us autos to keep up with an RSX-S.

What is the deal with the RSX-s? Those cars are bloody slooow! I have seen them stock run 16.1 in the 1/4 consistantly...I run 15.3 with a bad knock sensor in hot a$$ humid wheather. Autos should have no problems with these cars....5spds?.....bwahahaha I spit at an rsx-s.....ha!

ok, here's specs on the weak a$$ RSX-S

they have 200 hp and 142 torque....they are weaker than us BUT weigh a good 300 pounds less and i guess type -s means vtec or something

but i am pretty confident in my chances. The only thing that worries me is that they run 0-60 in 6.7 seconds. If that's the case, we may need more than a y-pipe and CAI to beat them....

I know that a 5spd will eat one for lunch, a guy I know has one I beat him 5 times at the track and once he got the jump by a 1/2 car length and I still beat him, our third leaves the RSX like it is standing still, BTW we both have intake and exhaust.

14s is pretty damn fast..and htat's where the car should be at.
a 5spd vs RSX-S is all a driver's race...both r about equally fast

The RSX-S may be slow in the quarter - but if you're only racing from a standing star to about 60mph - it'll be damn close - even in a 5 speed.
the Maxima may have a strong 3rd - but you're not going to get to use it before 60.

I think you'll be better off with a rolling start from 40-50 mph.

You have to remember that the RSX-S is 6 speed - the gear ratios are super close.. and the thing red-lines at 7900 rpm!

It's all designed to be quick off the mark.

I'm not sure how much validity Car and Driver's testing has but they got 0-60 in 6.1 and 1/4 mile in 14.8 @ 95mph.
just my $.02

i agree, ive driven one and it is nothing special. ive also raced a few and beaten them all. i think they pay off the magazines to report those times... or maybe people here just can't drive?

As you should know you get to use third in a 1/4 mile in fact all of it, and like I said our third eats that car.

As for C&D they have really good drivers driving the cars.

People fail to realize that cars with very peaky powerbands like most hondas, including the RSX-S, need to be driven on a razors edge to get the best performance out of them. A really good driver can get an RSX-S into the 14s stock, at about 92-94 mph, but an average driver who can't take advantage of the peaky powerbands will probably only muster mid 15s at best, and a bad driver... well we won't talk about that.

Cars with fatter powerbands like ours are much easier to get max potential out of, thats why a good driver is good for 14s in a stock 5spd, and even an average driver is good for low to mid 15s.

Stock for stock a 5 spd max may be comparable or even quicker in the 1/4 but at higher speeds you might have a bit of a problem assuming drivers of equal skill level.

My boy has a type-S. Definitly a hot car, but lets be completely honest here...It's a damn 4 cylinder!!! I tend to toy with him alot (on the road) and there is not really a comparison to my 5-speed max.
Toy = Go alot faster than him...

Tell me if I'm wrong but you are saying that the RSX has better top end than the Maxima, Right?

they may have a faster top end but they are all still governed at 110 stock.... hell i hit that speed almost everyday when i come home (deserted open road i toy with) so they may have a faster top end but unless they remove that limiter we will eat them...

I don't know where you are getting your info from but a RSX-S tops out at about 139-141. The car isn't limited to 110...I should know I had one for a couple of hours while my CL-S was being serviced and I got up to 120 pretty easily. The RSX-S isn't as slow as some of you think.

A couple of weeks ago i raced a RSX-type S. We were both at a light and when we took off, neither one of us gunned it but we waited for each other to make a move. As soon as I heard his intake open up, i gunned it and we pretty even until i hit third and I gained a car lenght on him. When we shut down, i was 1 1/2 car lengths ahead and he flew by me like a true ricer! By the way, i had three friends in my car and he just had his girlfriend (i assume) riding with him.

It is not all the driver in these mags. Most of them put the wheather conditions(when tested) at the end of the stats on the car. If you look it is betwwen 65-75 degrees and low humidity....optimal conditions for good times.

Were you guys even paying attention to what Nealoc said? The RSX-S, much like the S2000, have to be revved like MAD and driven perfectly to get their projected times. They have NO torque to work with. The only reason it keeps up with the Max off the line is becuase the guy is dropping his clutch at 4,000RPM's HIGHER then what the Max is.

Tell me, which would you rather own, a Mustang GT, or an RSX-S? I don't know about you, but I want the bigger engine. Most of us don't go to the track, so real world power is important. Most honda's just don't have the power on tap for real world situations. They brag about their "HP per Liter", but that means jack when you have to shift at 10,000 RPM's just to use that HP.

Unless you want to revv and drop EVERYTIME you want some power, get a car with a little torque and displacement. I mean, our 3.0L V6's aren't the biggest engines out there, but they are like Cobra's compared to the RSX's wimpy 1.6 I-4.(or whatever it has).

Remember, "Horsepower wins shows, torque wins races".

Just had to vent...the fart can weedwacker sound of their car has made me go insane.

You think that is good stuff, get a honda next to a domestic V8 such as a LT1 camaro or a 4.6L stang. Then get them both to revv. I'm tellin you, it's rather funny to hear their weed-wacker at full revvs get totally drowned out by the deep roar of the V8. They blush like women and drive away w/their tails in between their legs calling mom, asking her why she didn't buy him a real car.

I have one of the fastest NA maximas.
My roomate has an RSX-S w/ an injen intake and tien coilovers and he is also a very good driver.

we race ALL THE TIME, autoX, street etc....

I own him off the line, he owns me on the highway. These are not even kinda close issues... they always happen the same way.

the RSX will eat a maxima on the top end... so how can you people call them slow? when racing upwards of 120 he OWNS me.

Well yes and no. Sure your Max has more torque than the RSX-S so off the line you can take it unless he does a high RPM drop. But the RSX does have more horsepower than your car. So if the race is from a roll especially at highway speeds the RSX has a better chance of winning. The point is if you stoplight race with the RSX you have a better chance than from a highway roll.
