help with check engine light diagnostics
Hi -
My 95 Maxima GLE had the check engine light on right before noon and then in about five minutes it went dead on me in the middle of the street. I was able to get it back on after a while and to a parking lot. The codes are 1 3, "Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor" and 3 4, "Knock Sensor". I understand the knock sensor issue but any info on the 1 3 code???
Thanks,
M.

try clearing the codes out again and see what happens. if it comes back, pull the codes. if its the same 2 codes than you need to replace both sensors, however i would do the Knock Sensor first b/c i here that can pull up ghost codes
hope this helps

Don't change the knock sensor first!
If you get the engine coolant temp code again, change that sensor. If your cars ECU can't read the temperature of your engine, it may have a hard time adjusting the air fuel mixture and can make your car run to lean or to rich causing excessive ping, thus triggering the KS code. (hows that for a long sentance)
In this example the KS code is the ghost code. It's triggered by something else.
If after fixing the engine temp sensor, the KS code comes back, then replace it.
