New personal track best!
Hey, just got back from the track on an incredibly hot and humid night. The high today was about 100, with high humidity. My first run was probably low 90's with 70-80% humidity, and my last was probably mid 80's. So the weather was not going to help me out. The good part was that it wasn't crowded so I was able to run a LOT. I'm running a '99 SE 5-speed with frankencar intake, UDP, and full exhaust except stock muffler. My main goal (though I didn't expect it to happen on such a night) was to break into the 14's. My runs were as follows:
1st: 15.59 @ 89.51
2nd: 15.42 @ 91.17, at which point I realized I hadn't let the air down on my front tires, which I did before the next run...
3rd: 15.12 @ 91.74 (3 tenths from lowering the tires!)
4th: 15.16 @ 92.28
5th: 14.94 @ 93.05 (WOO-HOO!!!! I DID IT!)
6th: 15.36 @ 90.79 (with a buddy riding along)
7th: 15.37 @ 86.72 (with another buddy riding along and letting off near the end)
8th: 15.06 @ 92.63
9th: 14.84 @ 92.70 (YEAH! AGAIN!)
10th:15.14 @ 91.54 (my clutch seemed to be slipping a little, didn't happen again)
A 14.84 is much better than I had hoped in these conditions. I think with cold weather 14.5-14.6 is possible. And there are still many more mods to do.
So many cars were running slow tonight. I actually beat a 5-speed new model Mustang GT in one of my runs and he didn't run better than a 14.7 all night. I couldn't believe I beat that car. A WRX never topped 15.2. Bring on the colder weather, gimme a 5th gen muffler and Z-rated tires, and I'll be nearing low 14's! YEEEEE-HAAA!!!!

I knew I wouldn't come remotely close to running near my best when I tested out my VI a couple nights ago. I went ahead and raced because I can guage whether a mod is working or not by comparing it to my old timeslips from the past two years. I wanted a 14.9 and I got it.

Look at it this way, 1/4 mile times are a function of TRACTION and POWER. Crappy traction will cause even a powerful car to run bad times. Trap speeds are simply a function of power. If you want to compare cars with the MEVI to cars without the MEVI, look at their trap speeds. Typical MEVI car is trapping 95-97 mph even in the hot summer months. Whereas a car without the MEVI is trapping at more like 91-93, just like dental stud did all day long.
I've gone to the track like 8 times this year, my average trap speed before MEVI was about 94.3, afterward, its about 96.0, with a highest of 96.6, and i'm not even accelerating in the last 60 feet... I run out of gear and just bang off the rev limiter for the last stretch of track.
