Found bolt in tranny oil pan, help!

My 96 Auto was having reverse gear slippage probelm. The problem get worst when the oil get hot. I decided to change the filter screen and clean the magents inside the pan. When I opened the pan I found a small bolt that are used indside and outside the tranny pan. The bolt was just sitting in the pan. I counted all the bolts from the outside and this was indeed an exrta bolt inside the tranny pan. I visually look for missing bolt aorund the filter area but seem like all were there. There was accumulation of fine particles on the magnets that I cleaned and replaced the scree filter even though it dod not needed to be replaced. Did this happend to anyone else? My tranny still have slippage problem with the reverse gear and all other works fine. Could it be that the tranny is slipping in reverse due to that bolt falling off something deep inside the trayyn? Any help is appreciated!

What coudl it be?

Could it be a bolt from the linkage line and now my tranny is not working propely because of that? Is it possible to have if fix without rebuilding it?

Re: Found bolt in tranny oil pan, help!

Was your transmission worked on before? If so, then it is likely when the mechanic dropped your pan, he put all the bolts in the pan for safekeeping. When it was time to put the pan back on he got all the bolts (except for one) and bolted the pan on. When he found he was short one bolt, instead of taking the pan back off and finding it, he just got another bolt. The fact that your transmission is slipping in reverse is coincidental. Just a theory.

The bolt was really shiny like brand new. Unless the oil has clean up the dirt this could be possibility.
