Anyone with a MEVI/Cold Air ??

Alright Im really thinking of ordering this next week but Im sceptical if it will cause my top HP loss with the Cold Air to disapear...Everyone knows that the Cold Air intake from Place Racing does suffer up top from starving air and I was wondering if the VI will solve this problem ?? Im really considering getting this and I want to know do you really feel a difference when you first take it to the highway ?? Pull power up top like they all say I do know the dynos dont lie but do you notice it when you took off the first time ??

I have never really felt the problem that a few people talk about on the highway with my CAI. I am not saying it's not there.. I have never had a problem

That being said.. with my VI YES there is a difference.. there is PULL from 5000+rpms.

i will be on the dyno soon, 2 weeks max, so if that helps

On a side note I deleated my double post so i took your post off. Sorry I did not see you posted

Yep you sure do...you know when that sucker opens up. It rocks YOu never knew your Maxima had it in it to just keep going all the way through the redline. Yet you got my opinion...just want to place it again so if anybody else is looking into it.

Yes the variable intake manifold will improve the top-end performance of the VQ with the CAI installed. This was my intial set-up before I changed to a hybrid. When I had the CAI and VIM set-up dynoed my hp curve remained relatively flat past 5,500rpms. Switching to the hybrid intake, the hp curve had a more of a peak to it and I gained an average of 3.5 hp between 5,000 and 6,500 rpms compared to the CAI.

You will be able to feel the difference with a VIM installed the first time you use it. Please keep in mind however that the hp increase the VIM offers is in a narrow rpm range. It's amazing to watch how fast the tach needle moves once the VIM has activated.

Whats the Hybrid ?? I always hear about this but I never actually seen it or acted upon it...How much different to the CAI is it ?? How much did it cost ??

Why did you get rid of the Cold Air ?

hybrid intake is when you only use the first tube of the CAI. It's basically a popcharger but without the stock tubing. If that doesn't make any sense, try doing a search for hybrid intake. I'm sure someone has pics on here.

If I change to Hybrid I will lose most of the low end power that I love right ??

I can use the filter from the CAI for the hybrid, just take that long tube out ??

I only know of 1 person that changed and did a dyno before and after. The problem is that a dyno is not best for a CAI.. the CAI works best when your car is in motion... best way to find out.. dyno/track before..dyno/track after

Speedtrip,
Based on your dyno's, I went ahead and converted my CAI into a hybrid. I definitely feel the car moves up top more effortlessly in this configuration. Sound is a little louder but to me is a non-issue. There is also piece of mind that the filter isn't getting all that crap from down in the fender well--I couldn't believe all the particulate matter and bugs that got stuck in there in the year it was on. No low end loss felt either.
