problems with brakes

sup people
lately, my brakes have been giving me some problems. they are always squeaking, no matter what speed, and if i am just coasting at a low speed, there is also a squeaking sound. when ever i brake from a relatively high speed (50+mph?) there is a very loud, grinding type of sound, and they seem to be weaker than they should be. i have a 1995 GLE. all help would be appreciated. peace

If you are unable to perform your brake inspection, PLEASE TAKE IT TO QUALIFIED MECHANIC NOW!!! It sounds like your pads are VERY worn out.

Yep, that sound is the sound the wear indictors make. Don't be surprised if the shop tells you that you need new rotors. It doesn't take much time for the wear indicators to cut into the rotors.

Your car is in dangerous need of service.

Since you mentioned the grinding and the reduced braking ability, you have very little pad material left and (i agree) have probably destroyed one or both of your front rotors at this point.

Don't put yourself or others you share the road with at further risk: make brake service a BIG priority and next time, listen to your car - (save yourself some $ in the process).

-I suspect it has been trying to tell you something for quite a while now.

Best of luck.

PS: If you turn your own wrenches (even if you don't) pick up a Haynes manual for your car - best $15 (or so) you'll spend & it will help you spot many small problems before they become BIG PROBLEMS. Small problems = $; BIG PROBLEMS = $$$$$
