that all depends on how much money you got.

Really, really hard. If you really want to get into the 12s or better, you are better off getting something other than a Maxima to do it.

TURBO, NOS, y-pipe, full catback, carbon fiber hood, light flywheels, a few things taken out the car and you SHOULD be close if not there.

about 5 to 6,000 dollars worth of mods i would say...

if you get a maxima, why you wanna go 12 second? and
why you wanna go 12 seconds in a maxima?
there are other cars that are much better tune friendly, mod cheaply, and handle easily.
unless, you have something to proof, like in the mod business.

Re: How hard is it to get a maxima into the 12's

AS hard as spending $2k for a direct port 100-150 shot nitrous install running on race gas and slicks.

If your auto, all you need is:

1)Big shot of Nitrous
2)Fuel Pump
3)Slicks
4)I/E

That's not alot of money you have to spend. Jime has all of these and is on the verge of breaking into the 12's. He has a '97 SE Autotragic, and runs very low 13's consistently. (13.1 best)

5spds are much faster 0-60 and faster 1/4th stock, but once you start putting heavy power down, auto's are much easier to drag.

The sum of parts that add power donsn't easily add up to 12's, it takes time and effort. Their's only a few VQ's that have consistantly run 12's, theirs a bunch of guys that are close though. Money for power adders and race parts is one thing but having the time and brain power to make it all work together properly at the track is another thing. Lord only knows I feel the pain of being close but no cigar.

IMHO it aint easy like it is with a LS1 Camaro.

Amen, brother!!! You know that I feel your pain. It's not as easy as some people think. We have far less aftermarket support than do most other cars that even think about going into the 12's in a regular street car. You can end up throwing a lot of money into "mods" that don't achieve what they advertise. It takes a lot of time, money, and effort to get your car to run those numbers.

yeah not a big deal with a good Nos setup...for a 5speed its all about skills...and auto just hold on for a ride. just look at jime 13.3 with some mods and a good NX setup. and of course slicks

Jaime will run 12's very soon. He doesn't even have slicks yet, plus his trap speed of 108mph is unbelieveable for an auto. Also when you factor in that his track doesn't have the best times, he might run 12's at Steele with us right now. Veetec said that the Atlanta track was about 3 tenths slower than Steele in his maxima, so you never know. You gotta love direct port Nitrous...that might be on my list one day.

Guys, look up SR20DEN

He should be in the 5th gen forum. He just ran a 12.9 recently. He's got a 2K2 with a 100 shot, I think.
