I just installed my y-pipe....big problems!!!!!

i just had my warpspeed y-pipe installed today and on my way home, the cr felt like normal with a little bit of growl. Great!! Now here is where the problem begins. About half way home, the car starts to sputter....it begins losing power and the wild part is, no CEL. So this goes on all the way home on the expressway. I was only able to get up to 65 (i asn't trying to go any faster because I was afraid that it might konk out). When i get home i turn off the car, and then turn it back on. I do this about two to threee times. On the fourth time, i let the car idle and then i pull on the throttle cable so that the car is idling at around 2500-3000rpm's. After about five seconds i let off of the throttle cable and the car shuts off. The oil is o.k, and i have 3/4 of a tank of gas (93octane). I have only 55k on the car. WTF!!!!! I'm about to disconnect my battery to reset the ECU to see if that helps. Please, can someone help me out, my baby is sick.

check your electrical connections... MAS... maybe your o2's were messed up. i don't think its anything to do with your exhaust... sounds like they broke or knocked something loose.

You did reconnect both O2 sensors, reset the ECU and made sure you didn't have any exhaust leaks, right? If not, check those first. There is no other way that the y pipe would affect idle that I can think of. When was your fuel filter last relpaced?

Re: I just installed my y-pipe....big problems!!!!!

I just had my y-pipe installed 2 weeks ago and till this day I have no problems so it must be something wrong with the way they installed the pipe but straight unhooking the battery want reset your ecu you would have to do it by actually going into the ECU unit and reseting it by turning the screw right for like 30 sec and then turing it back left.

Good luck I hope evrything works out for you cuz warpseed y-pipe is a great addition to our cars and I really like my so I hope you will too

Could be packing material or debris left inside the y pipe when it was intalled.

I'm headed out of town, but i'm going to put on anew fuel filter when i get back. That has not been changed since i got the car. AS well. i plan on checing the o2 sensor connections. I gong to change out all of my spark plugs as well. I got the car at 42k miles, so i thinki'll just trouble shoot for now. After disconnecting the battery for about thrity seconds, my car began running smoother, but i only went down the block, so i'll see what's up when i get back in town.

I remember when I got my wsp y-pipe, that there was anti-seize compound on the O2 sensor holes already. If someone is not careful, you could get this anti-seize compound on the sensor, so that could send screwy messages to your ecu. I think you should make sure all your O2 sensors are clean before doing any spark plugs, fuel filters, etc. Your ecu is to the right of your gas pedal. There's a little panel there that you take off and you should be looking at it.

I will definitly check my o2 sensors when i get back in town this weekend. But i drove around to put a few more miles on my ECU, and i pulled in to a 7/11 to get a drink, when i came out, the car wouldn't start. And it kept sounding as though it wanted to turn over, but it just wouldn't. Mind you, the car was on an incline with thefront of the car higher than the rear. So after watching this cab driver continue to keep telling me how i wouldn't be able to get the car started. I unhooked the battery and then reconnected it, no luck. Then I swtitched the car's position so that the rear of the car was more elevated than the front, and after about ten minutes the car started. Once it started it made it home, without any hassles. My question is what about my fuel filter could that be clogged, since i have never changed it since owning my max(bought at 43, currently 56)? I got the idea since the cab driver kept saying he thought the fuel pump wasn't working, but would the car have made it home if the fuel pump where broke? Come on fellas/ladies, drop some knowledge on a brotha....Thanks!!!

Sounds to me like your MAS I had the same problems when my intake came loose the car was all kinds of jumpy at idle and it lost power through out the power band. Try tapping your MAS while your car is running to see if it studders. Good luck.

if it were the maf the car would start and shut off under throttle. If your fuel pump was broken, then the car wouldn't have been drivable because it wouldn't get any gas, unless its dieing. which then you would get less gas, equalling a sputtering car.

If I remember right there is an O2 sensor hidden down on the bottom side of the engine. When I installed my WSP pipe it was a b*tch to reach. I could see how a shop unfamiliar with the install cold bump something, mess up an 02 sensor, rip a wire, etc.... Its not the pipe itself...its in the wiring-my guess. Like everyone said an 02 sensor disconnected or bad could make the car run rough. Good luck.

if there's no CEL, then I am at a loss. It sounds like the MAF or one of the O2 sensors is not happy.

Just got back in town, and called up Nightrider because i told him what had happened before my trip. Nightrider came by and we checked all of the o2 sensors as well as changed the fuel filter. Still, the car wouldn't turn over. Then we checked the codes, or better yet he checked my codes. We went to vbxmaxima.com and through the codes we got, he found out that it was the crankshaft position sensor. So unless anybody knows where to get a crankshaft position sensor other than courtesynissan.com, give me a buzz. Thanks for all of your input. My baby looks like she's gonna make a full recovery!!!

Disconnecting the battery doesn't always work. Try reading the sticky at te top of the forum about resetting the ECU.
