sprint spring questions
sprint spring questions
Hey,
I think i've decided to get sprint springs since they offer the lowest drop aside from coilovers..
Now, regarding the ride quality, ppl heres say its bad. however, since a lot of you are used to the cushy luxury ride (aka. i cant feel **** ride) that might be why u hate it so much :P
Has anyone in here ridden in a stock integra typeR AND in a maxima with sprint/agx kyb combo and can compare? is the maxima a rougher ride than the integra?
Thanks

Sprints and Intrax alike use very high spring rates to keep the car from bottoming out and to increase the feel of "ultimate" handling. The trade off is a super harsh ride over surfaces that are less than ideal. If there is a pavement heave of just 1", you'll feel it.....painfully. It will sound as if your car is crashing all over the place. The "crashing" sounds and feels worse than it really is, but it can get annoying. You will ALWAYS tense up when you see any bump over 1" in the road. Also remember that the Sprints remove 2" of wheel travel from a car that already has minimal wheel travel (even though it looks like a 4X4 stock). The 2" drop will give you mere 1.5" of upwards wheel travel before you will hit the CUT bumpstops.
I've ridden in Type Rs. I had Intrax on my car and I've ridden in a Maxima with Sprints. There is absolutely NO comparison in terms of ride quality. The ITR rides very much like my Maxima does with it's current H&Rs. The ITR ride is firm and feels very connected to the road yet doesn't bottom out....just like my H&Rs. The Sprint/Intrax feels are bit twitchy and the ride is far harsher. The ITR and Maxima w/H&Rs soak up bumps and the Sprint/Intrax become unsettled.
Take a close look at a ITR next time and you'll see a good bit of wheel gap. Honda only lowered the ITR about .6" over stock. They took suspension pointers from the Germans in that they use stiff dampers (shocks/struts) and soft rate springs. This gives excellent ride quality, very little harshness, and most importantly excellent handling. You would be a FOOL to change anything on the ITR suspension because Honda setup it up so well. My Maxima has German made H&Rs teamed with jully adjustable struts. I never thought my car could ride to well with a 1.5" drop. I'm still wondering "how they did that" in terms on how well my car rides now. The Sprint/Intrax will ulimately handle better than the others on a perfectly smooth surface, but when it gets bumpy, the shorter and stiffer springs will become unsettled.
Some guys like the good looking 2" drop and some like a little more ride quality at the expense of .2-.5" less drop. I've tried both and I prefer the latter. I'm getting older now and I like a softer ride now, God help me
