I have a problem similar to these...

listed in order of similarity:

My

transmission

is dying

basically when i release the clutch, whether or not it is in gear, i hear a LOUD grinding noise. from reading the first post, i think the gears are spinning when they shouldn't but i am clueless to how they can since the car is stationary. by the way, i can get the car to move by revving up in first gear to ~3500 and releasing the clutch, and the same in 2nd @ ~2500. once im moving the other gears seem fine. thanks for any help guys.

I dunno, just a guess, but it sounds like maybe your clutch is slipping? How many miles do you have on it? If you have to rev up to 3500 to get the car started from a standstill in 1st, something is definetly wrong.

clutch has only a couple thousand miles, when the clutch slips it slips all the time, not only when you change gears, ie. when your clutch is on the virge of death and you floor it it slips and revvs madd high. I'm 99% sure transmission is at fault. i will take it to the shop on monday and find out then.

That's true. No clue what it is then. What kind of clutch is it? When did it start malfunctioning?
