I have a 95 maxima gxe. I have 2 problems. The first one is that the fan for heat only works at 4 or high position. 1-3 don't work. Second the temp gauge barly makes it to the c on the temp. gauge. Of course there is vaer little heat comming from the fans. I was told that the heat problem will be fixed with a new thermostat. Any ideas would be great thanks

Bad Thermostat
Considering you have cool air coming out of your heater, that would be my guess. Since the heater core is basically a miniature radiator with antifreeze flowing through, the thermostat is probably sticking open not allowing the engine to get up to operating temperature therefor messing up everything. As far as your switch is concerned do you have Automatic climate control or is it a manual control? Does it happen also with the A/C position? Let us know.

The control is a manual control and only seems to work in the hi position. any advice is great

Blower don,t work
According to my Factory Service Manual it is one of two things. It,s either the blower resistor (the more likely culprit) or it,s your fan selector switch. WAIT HOLD ON! I just did some more checking into your problem and one possible cause for your blower not working properly is that your engine coolant temperature is below 122degrees F. I don,t have a clue why this would cause this BUTT fix your thermostat first and then see what happens next.
Ok, I'll help. You spell it "T-E-C-H-N-I-C-A-L",hehe.
Now that we got that out of the way, the fan motor has TWO relays (1 for HI ONLY)(and 1 for 1,2,3). I'm gonna go out on a limb and say thats your problem for the fan motor.
The coolant? Related? Maybe...
1. Check your fluid level/mixture.
2. Temperature sending unit?
3. Blocked/clogged heater core?
4. Thermostat?
If it was me, I would check in that order.
Hope that does it.

Re: Blower don,t work
Yeah, do exactly what dch95 said. Check/replace your thermostat first, then see if the fan works. If not, replace the blower resistor. I tried to say the same thing yesterday but I had trouble posting.

motor. That part has failed. It is used to control fan speeds 1, 2, and
3. Speed 4 is the maximum blower motor speed, so no resistors are
involved. Replacing the resistor assembly is something the home mechanic
can do. The only tool needed is a Phillips head screwdriver.
The Haynes manual has a good photo of this part on page 3-8.

The fan problem is your blower motor resistor-->

That resistor controls the current that flows to the fan motor. If the resistor fails, then the fan will only work on the higher speeds (in my case in the 3 or 4 position only)
