99 Keys...

I did a search and found nothing about this.

I was wondering if anyone knew where you can buy blank 99 keys for somewhat cheap? I talked to a nissan dealer and he quoted me 140 for 2. I almost fell over! Do they have a chip in them that needs to be programmed or what?!?! BTW, thanks for all these posts, alot of them have helped me out greatly. Espcially the ones that showd how to reprogram keyless entries. (I got my car through an auction, and I only got one key, so now I need to find my own.)

Thanks,
Mark

Yes 99's do have a chip in the key. You can get a cheap key made which will open the doors and the trunk. Without the chip, however, in the ignition the key will allow you to crank the engine but the car will not start. Dealers have to program the new key with the chip.

For another remote, try EBAY.

99s have the Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System with chipped keys. A non chipped key will start the car, but it will die within a few seconds. New keys have to be purchased from the dealer, and I believe all keys have to be reprogrammed at the same time so they start the car.

yepp...

xHypex is right. I used to work at a nissan dealership and when you purchase a new key they put it into the ignition and with a scanner that plugz into your cars computer, they send the code to the key. I think they used to charge either an hour or half hour service charge to program the keys.

Thanks for the info! I guess I have to pay for it... I did the remote controls already, so atleast the bill will not be more than 150$. As always thanks for the informative info...
