Well, I just obtained a bit of money ($1200) and im looking to put it into my car, what would YOU buy if you were in my current position - I already have wheels and new tires.. see sig.. and im getting kyb's and probably progress springs, .. so what would you get besides springs/struts and wheels/tires, im not really looking to get a body kit cause it would be torn off within a week of driving around campus due to speedbumps

Well if your asking what I think you should do then I would get a complete exhaust. Warpspeed Y-pipe, High flow cat, Apexi or Remus Exhaust. IF you would probably have enough money to get an intake as well. I'd go with a hybrid.

If it was my money I would use it to pay for my transmission work. But I would throw in a lightend flywheel. Or I would get my hood and trunk repainted.

Finish off the suspension with a RSB and FSTB. Then get a variable intake and a y-pipe.

Put it in a money market account and keep adding to it till you can get a turbo. Thats what I'd do anyway.

A SC would be really nice but I just don't have the mechanical skill necessicary to maintain it, or diagnose if something was to go wrong, im looking more towards idiot proof mods I think ive got it down to hybrid intake, y pipe, fstb, rsb and meebe a b pipe with 2k2 muffler, I dont really wanna wake the neighborhood when I come home at 4am etc.

I'd get Y pipe, Intake, MEVI and JWT ECU. That will be a little more than $1200, probably $1400, but that will significantly elevate the performance of your car.

PFI in Colorado makes one... you know right? Check the group deals... practically no one has it cause its $$$, but Nigel (Turbo97se) is making 371 FWHP on stock everything at 11.5 PSI.

The reliability is an unknown, but each part of the kit has known reliability in various applications. A turbo is a turbo The only things that could worry me are the Deltagate wastegate, which can be swapped for a Tial, and maybe shoddy piping, but the worst likely consequence of that would be an exhaust leak or a boost leak, neither one is exactly detramental.

In any case it's not for the weak minded or faint of heart.

Don't you want to wait until you have all of your bolt-ons done (including an MEVI) before you upgrade the ECU in order to get the most from it? To quote another org member "If I'm talking out of my **** please let me know."

yup i know of his turbo but didnt know if it was something of a frankenstein project or if its something that can be produced.
dont think most of us can afford to worry about the hassle unless you have access to a friend with a tuning shop and you bring your car there like every week

The y-pipe is the best "bang-for-the-buck" power gain mod you can possibly get. If you drive the freeway a fair bit like I do, the b-pipe/modified 2K2 muffler while be good for you too in combo with your intake. You might also consider a hi-flo cat!

Yeah there you go...MEVI (VIM) y-pipe and intake...and can scrounge around enough loose change get the JWT ECU...very helpful with the MEVI.

I am leaning towards the 2k2 muffler but someone mentioned "modified 2k2 muffler" in what way do people mod it.. take out the resonator er something?

Re: If you had $1200 what would ya buy for the max

reflecting back on my mods throughout the last three-> four years, i spent alot of money that i could have saved for other things.

personally i like performance over anything. looks, audio, etc. so.
if i had to start ALL over again today with $1200, i would do this:

1. Race Seats. truly the best modification i ever did. i got to feel the car and what its going through and to have that type of feel for the car, you can better understand what is happening. Corbeau race seats are inexpensive and offer great support. Get 1 if you want to budget everything. Cost? ~$370ea for top of the line.

2. the maxima is mighty fast stock. but it's tranny sucks azzz., i would only go for the proven mods. if you're auto, then the valve body modification $450, or if you're stickshift, UDP with Redline tranny oil ($200) and short throw shifter $75 pacesetter.

3. TIRES are the only thing that touches the ground. if you do everything on the car to go fast, its all pointless unless you can control it. DO NOT CHEAP OUT ON TIRES. get the best set you can afford. Bridgestone RE730s/ Yokohama's/ and if you're budgeting, Khumo Escata Supra 712s. ~$150 each tire average x 4

4. lastly, the maxima sucks at the top end, so, variable upper intake manifold would be my last suggestion. they are limited in supply. so get em while they're out there.

my 2 cents

Sorry, I should have elaborated. I have a 2K1 Maxima muffler with a 2.5" inlet pipe. That way, the whole entire exhaust system pipes stay a consistent 2.5" diameter without constrictions or pinch-points in between.

Do the 2k2 mufflers come stock with a 2.5" inlet pipe?.. and does anyone have another reccomendation for a quiet muffler with 2.5" pipe, I would prefer a single tailpipe just because of the bumper cutout, btw thanks for all the input guys

cool, anyway on my old max ( 93 auto se ) i have a laud muffler and sometimes it just drives me crazy. ( dob't recomend those, unless u like waking up the hood) If i am to replace it, i'd go with a 2k2, or maybe with a dual pipe set up. By the way, is it possible to get a setup similar to that of an Acura CL type S?

Id search for some 4 piston 300ZX calipers and then get a budget y-pipe and get some springs (sprints, intrax, eibach) with AGX struts. Then get another $1200 to get rims. Oh ya and make the intake yourself for about $50.

Down payment on a used 2k2 max....those things are getting pretty cheap already and will be dirt cheap once Nissan introduces the RWD 4.5L V8 Maxima. Shoot the Infiniti M45 will be released in Oct. and the Max shouldn't be too far behind.
