Actually I think the most feasable thing to do if you want a skyline, so just buy one. I've seen some on ebay go for $13K for 600HP. If you really want to keep the Maxima, you can buy the front end of a Skyline and maybe work with that.

You can drop anything ON to a Max!

In reality it won't work because the motor is AWD. I don't think the engine bay of the Max as it is stock would be wide enough or long enough. Therefore, this is not a feasible idea.

That's what I say too!?!? I thought I read it somewhere that you can import a R34 into U.S. for $85,000. I drove a R34 when I was in Hong Kong last year, though that friend of a friend only let me circle around the block 2x, it was the best driving experience ever! (Until I get to drive a 360 Modena, F40, or F50) But I have to say, shifting with your left hand just ain't right!

r34 skyline, $85,000 USD

look in the Robb Report, there used to be an add (i can pull one from my bro's old collection if you wanna know bad enough) for this importer in California that will import for you from Japan the color (stock colors) r34 skyline you choose for $85,000.

I think you guys are talking about MOTOREX. They have been importing Skylines to US. I think they even did a conversion on a Maxima by putting a skyline front end and tailights, slightly did a wide body. the car was blue. It looked like a skyline but it had a maxima for a soul.

How/ where did you get yours? If it were to sell at the current price, even w/ $1500 shipping it would still be around what I paid for my Max, with the same miles. How much would the taxes/duties be on it to make it legal to drive here?

nope, nope, nope! No engine is AWD. Transmission can be AWD (with transfer case built in), or there is a separate transfer case for AWD capability.
Can you stuff Skyline engine into Max? most likely. you'd have to put it longtitudally (aka front to back, not like maxima has its engine across), because i think its a pretty long I-6, plus turbo piping, etc. so, you can put it together. the best way? give the engine and maxima's shell (at least the engine bay has to be empty) to a shop that builds drag racers (WILD RIDES in NJ), and they'll probably do a tube chassis front, stick the engine in with att the goods attached, and thats all simple? no. major work? yes. can it be done? Oh Yeah! Why someone would do it? just because. oh yeah, would have to hammer on the floor pan to put exhaust somewhere, cause a driveshaft be goin to the rear end (graft in skyline's, while you at it!). or you can route the exhaust by the front wheel, and wake up everyone within 5 block radius! the fuel tank will have to be replaced by a fuell cell there the spare tire used to be. hmmm, i think we're done! find a maniac who will do it!!!

I got it from Motorex. To make that GTS-T legal here, you would have to talk to them as only they can do it. Conversion prices start at $16k for a R32 GT-R, for GTS-T it might be cheaper. www.motorex.net

Anyways, buying a GTS-T for USA isn't a very good idea. It is far away from GT-R even though the one on EBay had GT-R engine in it. No AWD, no AWS, softer suspension, softer chassis etc.

At this stage in my life, I was not actually thinking of doing it, just pointing out that is was not as expensive as the $80K and up that you hear about some places. Yours looks really nice..I am quite envious, although the idea of shifting left handed seems a bit odd...

Not all people want R34. R32 was my dream eversince I saw one in a magazine back in 1989. Best bang for the buck anyway and most say the most rewarding to drive out of the modern GT-R's. I know a few who have switched from R34 to R32, saying they weren't satisfied by the feel of R34. R32 GT-R's start at around $30k, US street legal. Getting it up to 600-700hp will cost you extra $10k, give or take.

Shifting with your left isn't bad, you get used to it quite fast. Driving on the right side is fun IMO and isn't that much different from LHD.

I can only forward what I was told, I haven't driven any R34's myself. What was said, R32 is more of a race car and lets you drive it the way you want, R34 is more of a luxury cruiser that pampers you too much. I got the impression that those who like to drive hard prefer R32.
