235/45/17's or 225/45/17's......

I'm not too familiar with 2k stock rims, but I thought I read they are 17x7 and do not suggest using 45s. MAXFAQs say use 215/50/17 on a 17x7 rim. I could be way off, but I would suggest doing some research on that rim before buying....just a thought![Wink](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)

The size used on maxima's with SE rims are 225/45/17's, i'm just wondering if i'll run into any problems with 235/45/17's.

If you haven't bought rims yet, buy 8 inch wide rims. If you do, you can go 235/45 or 245/45 (I went 245/45 for a wider contact patch & it fills in the wheel well better). You can safely put more sizes on an 8 inch rim.
If you already have the 00/01 rims, go 225/50/17. 225/45 will put your speedo off (not a big deal but it will be off more than it should be).
This site helps you play around with tire sizes too

I would recomend putting on 235/45/17,, This will make your tires look wider on a 17" rim.. i have 19s with 235 and i have no rubbing problems and that with a two inch drop...i would think with 17s you could even go 245s with out rubbing, but i woudl do a 245/35 instead if you were to go any wider then 235

First # is the WIDTH of the surface area that touches the ground...
2nd # is the height of the sidewall..
3rd # is the diameter of the wheel.
If you have 225/50/17 which many 2k+ SE Maximas have.. you would be fine, except the overall turning diameter is too big for a 4th gen. You can tell that a 50 profile tire looks more beefy than a 45 profile tire.
The 235 would kind of buldge out a little bit on the sides.. might be a good thing.. 225 is fine.. 235s are wider a little tiny bit..
i think u'd definately be okay with either 2. There have been plenty of people running 235s on those rims.

Thanks guys for all the advice and the suggestions. I just did a search on the 5th generation board and there was a ton of info on this subject. Some of them say that the manufacturer doesn't recomend the 235/45/17's and that only 225/50/17's or 235/50/17's should only be used. Well after reading about one hundred threads and looking at pics of peoples cars with the 235/45/17's, and knowing how hard i drive my car on turns and corner (not hard at all). I'm gonna go with the 235/45/17's. Oh yeah, the guy i'm buying them from was using the same size tire as quoted by the manufacturer as being the wrong size and he drove on those rims like a mad man, and his tires never flew off the rims. And they look nice as hell.
