About ECU codes.....
.....what is the name of the device I need to purchase so that I can pull codes from my ECU? I wonder how much it cost? Some guy at AutoZone told me they will not pull codes unless the check engine light comes on. I think my knock sensor might be bad or something. Thanks.

It's actually a small flathead screwdriver. Look at the stick on the top of the forum, it gives a link to the site that explains how to read the codes.

Your better off pulling the codes yourself, depending on the year your Max is. But, if you want to get more technical (with "PO" codes) you can purchase a computer code reader scanner tool. Just make sure it's an OB2 computer code reader compatible for Nissans. Not a cheap tool, either.

My independent mechanic at Alt Z (specialize in Nissan/datsun/Infiniti) have the tool. It cost them a few thousand dollars and was really hard to get, but they charged me $50 to diagnose with it. It determined that one of my O2 sensors was malfunctioning and my ECU codes didn't reveal anything. I'm going to change my o2 and get some of my mileage and power back.
