stupid information for people too stupid to think, like me

So i'm leaving for work this morning, go to start up the car, and she starts up, runs for 3 seconds, and dies. I try again. She won't turn over. So, the first thing i do is pop the gas tank cover and check it. See, i've had problems with someone near me, and he's already threatened my babies (GF and maxima). So i open the tank and start looking for styrofoam pieces or sugar grains. Nothing except for a slight buzz off of the fumes.
So i start checking the battery, cables wires, alternator, throttle switch, fluids, etc. She still won't turn over. At this point i called off of work, since there was no way i was gonna leave my car in this condition. I'm messing with it for over an hour, it even got to the point where i ripped out my airbox and went through it (i figured the mass airflow sensor was the problem). Nothing. So i put everything back together and sat back scratching my head until it hit me. Last night i went to Wal-Mart and had duplicates of the key made. i was using one of the copies to start the car. So i run upstairs and tear my room apart, looking for the master. I run back downstairs and put it straight in the ignition. Bingo. The car turns over. I throw it into drive and speed off to work.
Lesson learned: Maximas (at least mine) have a stupid friggin chip in the key. Only nissan dealers can make copies of these keys because they have to program the chips.

Missed time at work: $35
New key: $40+Tax
Lesson learned: Priceless

Got that one beat! I got back from lunch one day and the key wont
come off the ignition. After messing with it for 5 minutes, I finally gave up and ask my supervison if i could take the rest of the day off
to take my car to the dealer and have them take a look at my problem.
She said are you on PARK????????

NOTE TO SELF PUT GEAR IN PARK BEFORE TURNING OFF THE CAR

Im more Concerned about you missing work for $35 hope that per hr

crsh2, pretty funny story tho i shouldn't be laughing cause something similar happened to me.

I was driving my dads grand prix backing out of my friends house (music was on loud from before when i shut car off) so i cant really hear anything. anyways i put the car in reverse and im backing out. a car is coming so i press the break, only its not doing much, and the car's still rolling. it slows down enough for the car to pass and then my car is in the middle of the road and the gas isnt' doing anything. the thing is my stereo was on too high i didn't notice the engine was off. so i try to start the car, but the key won't turn. now im stuck in the middle of the road and my car can't move nor start. at this time im getting really ****ed and nervous. so after about a minute or so, i find out that the gear is in Reverse, and the car cannot be started from this gear. so then i put it in park, started and drove home. nevertheless it was a pretty stupid experience, good thing i drive 5spd now, that can't really happen to me anymore

I did the same exact thing once a few weeks after I got my car. I was so scared something was wrong with it and I would be stuck in the middle of the road.

Thats funny, I always thought video games helped me in constructive thinking and hand-eye coordination. At least I have some good scapegoats from my chemical-sponge high school days to blame when I get those and moments.

neutral would have also worked. you can start your car in park or neutral.

actually have one better than that

When i first started driving, i was driving my mom's sunbird. Well, i pull into a parking space, pull up the e-brake and get out....forgetting about the automatic door locks, that the car is running, and still in drive. I wound up having to break out the opera window to open the doors. Then i went and told my mom the car got broken into. That sucked.
