For Those with Big Bass and Spoilers

I have eliminated every dang vibration in my car . . . except for one. The FREAKIN' spoiler. Everything is rattle free except for the spoiler. Short of removing it, I can't think of a way to get rid of it. So before I looked into removing it, and finding a better way to mount it, I thought I'd hit up the org and see if anyone has already solved this problem.

dont remove it, spoilers look great on maxima's. i wouldnt worry so much about the sound and stuff unless you plan on doing sound shows, otherwise i think it sounds like your spending to much time and effort in this

I'm pushing 1000w on 2 RF HX^2's in the trunk, and the spoiler has never, ever, rattled. Is it bolted on correctly? The trunk lid itself however, is full of vibrations. Get some Dynamat and some noise insulation spray and go to town. If you know for SURE it's the spoiler, your best bet is to get a rubber-tar based adhesive (roofing material, dynamat, brown bread, any sort of heavy sticky material), remove the spoiler, lay a single layer of it over where the spoiler would go, and then bolt the spoiler back on, very tightly.

Personally, Afew patches of dynamat-type-stuff on the inside of the Lid (where you can reach), and a can of RF spray-noise-killer for the places you can't reach was enough for me on the lid.

It's the spoiler for sure

I have dynamatted the trunk lid, and stuffed poly fill into the openings to stop the key latch mechanism from vibrating against the trunk lid. It's crazy, without the polyfill, the sound of the latch mechanism is SO loud. Stuff two sheets of polyfill in there, and it's gone.

I'm sure it's the spoiler. If I stand at the back of the car, it vibrates, if I press down on the spoiler, no more nasty vibration sounds. Don't press down, and vpvppvpvpvp, vppvpvvpvpvppv, everytime the bass kicks.

There seems to be some kind of rubber already between the spoiler and the trunk lid. However, the spoiler or the mounting structure must be damaged, because I can lift the spoiler off the trunk lid a couple millimetres (3-4). My buddy tells me there is an insert in the spoiler itself that must be damaged by the bass. He believes that if I remove the spoiler, and replace, or atleast rebuild the inserts, I should be able to get rid of the noise, but I thought some guys here on the org would know better way of doing it.

I've got two 15's in the trunk and my spolier is shot. The far left side has broken off from its plastic housing and just shakes from every bump and what have you. My subs killed my trunk and spolier, when there pumping out bass the whole trunk is just shaking like crazy. My buddies dad was behind me one day and he saw my spolier like jumping up and down.

That's exactly what's happening to me damnit! What have you done about it?

I actually can't even hear it from inside the car, but I hate knowing my car sounds like some cheap **** honda from the outside with stuff vibrating. You know what I mean, all those civics with so much bass their cars vibrate/shake like their drivers do when they line up with Maximas

Listen to where its actually vibrating and put either black or clear silicone up under where its bolted, or if you want just put it under both of them. If you middle ones are rattling one might be cracked. Mine used to rattle and i really ddint worry much about it and it ended up cracking. i just put silicone there too and u really can't see it at all. No more vibrating spoiler. but i have a vibration under my car by my tire well and cant get that one now so maybe one of you can help me with that.

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking something similar, but I figured the silicone wouldn't have enough hold strength, that is without me actually removing the spoiler and roughing up the surfaces first. I'll give it a try sometime soon.

As for the underbody sound, try checking your spare tire well. I had a sound that sounded like underbody vibrations, possibly a heat sheild. However, I found it to be some things I had in the well. After removing them, no more sound.

If silicone doesnt hold try getting Goop. its in a tube probably in the silicone section. It acts like silicone only it dries a lot quicker and holds like superglue. But silicone held mine fine.

Yah, I love that Goop stuff. I always have atleast one tube lying around. I might try silicone on one side and goop on the other and compare.

if u have the spoiler with the led in the middle the led will rattle like hell too...to solve that one just drill two small holes in the orange casing and squirt some silicone behind the led...that will keep it from vibrating...

good luck

Yea, I think on mine the rattling is the row of LEDs. If I pinch the spoiler, the rattling goes away. I'll have to take a look at jay's suggestion...but you have to remove the spoiler for that, right?

I'm afraid what I'll see when I remove the trunk lining to take a closer look at my spoiler. The pillar on the left side has rust around the foot, about .5-1" in circumference. Just showed up this year

Re: For Those with Big Bass and Spoilers

I've got trunk rattling vibration trouble that also sounds like a rattling spoiler. I'm trying to isolate all the noise before i put my sub in. I've taken every panel out of the trunk. I took out my back seats and the sheet metal panel behind the seatback. I pounded the spoiler and trunk w/my fist, and it makes the bad vibration noise. but if i do the same thing to the spoiler when it is not in the closed position, it doesn't make the noise. I think there is some issue with the trunk latch that sits under the lip of the trunk. I have no idea how to isolate that noise. the only thing i could think of is that the latch/lid interface is loose. May be i'll trying closing the trunk lid with some padding b/t the car body and the lid to make it a tighter interface. If anyone is interested, i'll post some results later on.

Anyone else? the whole back of my car is sitting in my living room and that noise is driving me nuts!!!!
