There is a procedure for reading codes stored in the Transmission Control Module (TCM). This can be found in a Haynes Manual, FSM or in our very own 4th Gen FAQ.
Give that a try and come back with the results.

check your shifter **** for damage
The same thing happened to me. When I disassembled the shifter **** I discovered that the plastic material is broken in the area of the overdrive button. It looks like this does not allow the switch to stay on. If you find this is your problem then...
Try to repair or replace the shifter ****. In my experience there are no aftermarket replacements that will look good (but everything is a matter of taste). You could try to get a shift **** from a junkyard or just buy it new.
Other solution is to retain the damaged shifter **** and relocate the switch to a different location with an electrical switch. A sugestion could be to obtain a oem switch for other function (such as hazard lights, and defroster) and make it work for the overdrive function, then install it in one of the spare spaces that are always available in the dash.
Other possible solution could be to replace the **** with a better looking aftermarket **** with no OD button and relocate the button as suggested above.
Hope this helps.
