Possibly getting the motor from a '95 in the near future. Need ideas.

A friend of mine will be pulling a motor out of a '95 in the near future. #5 cylinder has 0 compression and the owner just wants to replace it. He said when he gets it out he'll give me the bad one. Now my question is: How can I build it up?

I'm going to have to go into the motor anyway to fix #5, so I figure if I'm in that far, might as well do it up right. What would everyone suggest? Now realize, there is a budget to this. I just want to know what path to take with this thing, without having to sell my house.

Now, I'm all ears.

If your going NA get some custom 11.1cr pistons made from JE, Arias or Ross. Next throw in a MEVI, JWT cams, get headwork (if you can afford it but it isn't neccessary). Then you'll prep the block and get the machine work done that is standard to a rebuild. Those mods should have the VQ well into the 200-220whp range. If you were to get valvesprings + Ti retainers that allow rpm over 7k, you could go with a bigger cam.

Thanks for the reply.

Okay, that's the N/A route. My two choices would be either N/A or NOS. I think S/C or T/C would be a little over my budget. If I were building an engine to handle a good amount of juice, I need to lower the compression, right? Would the DET pistons be too low? I'll probably give JWT a call and see what they say.

It depends on what kind of n2o kit you use. If you go direct port 100 shot, you will need race gas to run n2o. With 11.1cr race gas should be run at all times with n2o. A good n2o motor typically has stronger rods/pistons/rings than a normal NA motor. But as long as you run race gas on the n2o it should be fine. You'd probably need 2 step colder copper plugs for the nitrous also. There have been 11.1 SR20DE's that run 50-100hp n2o. HOwever the 50hp shot of n2o is at the limit of pump gas, anything high should be run on race gas. What kind of nitrous kit are you going to use?
