4 gen theft
4th generation, common stolen parts?
Looks like someone tried to pop open the hood of my 99 maxima. The cord for the hood release was pulled out a little through the front grille and the front grille was popped a little off center. He also scratched it all to hell.
I think it's time to get rid of the stock alarm and put in a kill switch.
Anyway, I was wondering, what parts would they be going for under the hood, or is that generally the first step to getting into the car itself (disabling the alarm perhaps).
I'm assuming they were trying to take the entire car, as I keep nothing of value in the car. Unless they really liked my fuzzy dice.
What really ****es me off though is that I don't know if this happened somewhere I went to, or while the car was parked in my carport.

That's what I thought. Though the general consensus on this board is that the stock alarm sucks. Which doesn't bother me since there isn't anything in the car to steal. (airbags maybe, but busting a window is way more direct). I'm really more worried about the theft of the entire car.
So, if the immobilizer is standard. I think they must have been trying to get to something under the hood. The only thing I can think of is the battery.
Which wouldn't help them much as it's schedule to be replaced in another 1000 miles.

look, kill switch or not, they will still go after your car and if they have enough time and are talented enough, override the kill switch in due time. The best thing to do is get an alarm which will let them know the car is being watched (prestige, viper)
also if u are that worried like i am, i would get a pager so you will know when your sh*t is being broken into. It doesn't pay to get an alarm which will go off and nobody knows so they can still steal the car. It is better to be able to run out there in the middle of the theft and call cops, somebody or run out with your bushido blade and make some criminal sushi

. 10 so far
meccanoble: Of course, a talented enough thief can steal anything. It's all about deterrance. I have been looking at some of the viper systems, but the remote one is a bit pricey.
Anyway, as I said, I was more concerned with the kill switch/disabler than an alarm as I know how ignored alarms are. So where can I find information on how the stock disabler operates?
Or how about this, what are you using?
maximamoose Funny, I have two swords, a pair of kris blade daggers, and one boot dagger.

I don't know how to use the immobilizer on stock alarms. Didn't even know we had any but after my car got stolen cause they broke my window and didn't unlock the door (only way alarm goes off, WTF), i said F that and put myself in debt to keep my car in my grasp as long as i could.

the stock alarm does suck thats why Im going to get a clifford with the money Im hopefully getting from the alternator I changed right before the recall notice.
Maybe also consider getting an "Autoloc"
It's a mechanical anti-theft device.
http://www.asontv.com/products/993675936.html
It's only like $59 at any auto parts store and as far as I can tell, offers one of the best deterrents available to "whole-vehicle theft."
I use one on my car in a major city and although I have no way of knowing for sure if it has stopped any would-be thieves, the bottom line is. . .I still have my car.
