Rear Brakes

Rear Brakes

I was replacing the brake pads both front and rear. The fronts were not problem but I couldn't get the rear caliper piston to retract. I tried using long nose pliers to rotate it but it would hardly move. Any suggestions

a large "C" clamp to push the piston in

You've really gotta twist and push at the same time. Even when you do it correctly, it still takes a couple of minutes and a few rotations to get the piston all the way back into the caliper. Just keep tryin' at it with the needlenose. Good luck!

Yes, I bought 1 at Advance Auto. It fits 5 different sizes of rear brakes. A 3/8 in. extension and ratchet are used with it. With this tool it took me less than 15 seconds to have the caliper all the way in. It cost about $9.00 and is made by AmPro, part number T71921 and it comes with a Life Time Warranty. AmPro Tools Corp. is located in Cupertino, CA95014. It is called A Disc Brake Piston Remover.
