problems starting up

problems starting up

ok i have a 98 max and my car has problems starting. but when the car is running everything seems to be normal. i have a stereo with cap can my battery be drained after a year? also does anyone know what i can do about my windows going down so slow and off track it keeps rubbing up on the rubber.

alittle more info about your cars problme would help. like when is it doing this.. how does it sound. Does the car have dim lights when you first get in to it... stuff like that. As for the windows, spray some silicone lube on the rails and it should help them out a bit

it doesnt have any dim lights it sounds like its having a hard time cranking up but after about 5 secs it kicks in

Your starter is telling you it's had enough. Retire it before it gets ****ed at you and walks out on the job, leaving you stranded.

test your battery first, dont go changing the starter right away. If the starter is actually starting the car then its mostly ok unless it has dead spots (thats why people tell you to hit it hard with a hammer) Change your bettery first. A starter from Nissan can cost you 200 dollars

if you have a voltmeter you can measure voltage at your battery posts when you are cranking you should have at least 9.6 volts. if you have any less you will need to replace your battery. dont hit the starter with a hammer, you used to be able to do that in the 70's but you cant do that with todays starters. they are too fragile

I have the original starter on my 96... so far 140k miles w/ it. It's startin to give up, takes about 3-5 seconds to startup in the mornings sometimes. I checked my battery... produces 12.96V so that's fine... i'm thinking of upgrading the ground wire for the starter as well as replacing the starter wire (if it's easy to access) to a thicker gauge in hopes of provide better conductivity and start faster... or i'll just end up buying one for less than $100 and installing it myself. This car has treated me well w/ the starter... haven't replaced it yet! unlike my celica... had to change it 4 times, but then found it the wires weren't thick enough lol.
