Swap GXE for an SE ECU?

I wanna get rid of the speed limiter on my GXE but I dont want the CEL on for the rest of my life, and I dont know enough about wires and crap to hook up the switch. So I was wondering, cant I just find the same year ECU at a junk yard from a SE or GLE and put it in my GXE? Would that work? Has anyone ever done it? Thanks

Oh yeh, Sprint youre right near waterbury right? Would you cut it, or hook up the switch so I could turn it on and off? Cause I dont want the CEL to always be on...

Well what do you think would be easier...you and I hooking up a switch, or me trying to find a 98 SE ECU? If youre willing...I suppose we could get together one weekend and work it up...I'm about 15 mins up route 8, I could easily come down

The entire "cut wire and hook up a switch" job takes about 30 minutes, the hardest part is routing the wires from the switch up into the dash and drilling the hole. If you'd rather spend $150 on a new ecu than spend 30 minutes working on your car then go for it, but I can think of some far more exciting mods for $150 than a stock ECU. A switch costs about $2.49.

I'll give them a call and see. If its a 5speed, I can just swap em no problem right? I'd prolly do that...I'll let you know. Thanks for all the help sprint...one of these days we'll have to hook up

I would but I have no experience doing any kind of work like that and dont want to mess anything up.

You can cut the wire with a pair of scissors (if you dont have wire cutters), and then twist the wires around the prongs of a switch and wrap them in electical tape. Thats it. No experience necesary.

Get a 25 amp automotive switch from Radio Shack. The CEL will only come on after the sensor has been disconnected for about 15 minutes. If you are going over 120 mph for more than 15 min...you have other things to look out for besides the light...
