CAI or regular Intake???
ok, i'm debating on what type to get now. at first, i had my heart set on a PR CAI since it was bad azz but it's like $300 + so now i dunno. what are you opinions? what other "regular" intakes do you all recommend? what's the hp trade off and gain from stock? i heard from the local shop, or ex shop it was around 20 HP from stock with a PR.
Get the CAI
If I could go back in time I definitly would have gotten a cold air intake,I wish intakes made 20HP that would be great if you want that kind of power gain you would need a intake and a Y-Pipe.A regular intake makes about 5HP to the wheels and cold air intake makes about 8-10HP.That extra hundred bucks is worth the extra 5HP if your looking to toon your car to the limit then get it.Check out the for sale section you can usually find one for about $100-150.
two concerns with CAI
two things with a CAI is that if i do sell the car or trade it in, it could potentially lower the value of the car since i had to cut to install it. and on that note, i hear that install for a CAI is a b***h versus a regular intake. and the price you listed, is that for a CAI or an intake? i saw a '96 se five speed run 14.80's with a home made ghetto intake and a greddy cat-back so i'm guessing for a auto max which runs 15.7 - 15.8 stock, maybe 15.20 - 15.30's, is that about right?
I just put my CAI intake in this week and I love it. The total install took about three hours. I bought it used for $120, but you can get it new from cattman for around $220. I would recommend the CAI, it sounds great and you can feel a power difference. The install wasn't too hard, just took some time...as for the hole, you can barely see it once everything is back in (it sits next to the battery, under the fuse box...unless your looking for you won't see it) Regular intakes take around 30 min to put in (if that). So if you want to drop the money and want the performance, get the CAI. If you don't want to put a hole in the car then get the regular intake (Stillen or JWT). I've heard that the regular intakes are very loud though. The CAI is only loud when you get on it, it has a nice growl around 3000 RPM. If you need any help, just ask.
cai is probably what i should have gotten....
but me and my gf went to ennis for import races about 2 weeks after i bought my car....stopped by courtesy nissan and impulsively purchased jwt pop.....it has treated me well and all, but i can't help thinking i should get the pr cai...if anyone has a used one to sell, let me know...i will even trade my jwt...hehehehee.
btw, cai is only like 220.00 or around there from <a href=www.cattman.com> Cattman

ok, ok
i think i might go with a CAI intake now since everybody is saying that they wished they had gone with that. my only question, well two questions is: how much for the best one (most likely a PR) and how is the install?
I'm looking for an
intake also, and I think I will go with the CAI. I had all the same questions. They come in silver, red or yellow. cattman sells it for slightly less then Place Racing direct. I've talked to PR and Brian Catts.
I was worried about cutting the hole also but I think I'm almost over that now if its not too hard to do

The pop style dynos more power after 5000rpm, but the CAI has more power below that point. If you want toppend get the Pop, for more midrange get the CAI.

These are some really old threads. Why are you bringing them back?

I'm pretty sure the person got the answer they want by now.
If someone did a search they would find all the info they need.
