Just installed my OEM white gauges... questions about lighting (pics posted inside)
I just installed my OEM white gauge cluster, and I am really happy! They look awesome
I have a question, though... they don't appear to look any different at night than the old gauges. Is that how they are supposed to be? Did the former owner maybe change the lights... or is this what they are supposed to look like? I was thinking they were going to look at least a little different at night.
Anyways, they look awesome during the day and I am glad I bought them on eBay (from Ramius83). The installation was easy and took only about 1/2 hour.

You had asked me to tell you the mileage on the cluster you sold me. When I put it in it said 53,056.
Thanks again!
BTW, where are you getting these? Totalled Maximas?

Yup. that's how they're supposed to look.
I love the white face gages, but it has 2 drawbacks;
a) Harder to see redline when you're charging ahead at night.
b) During twilight, the time between day turning into night, the numbers get kinda sorta hard to read.
Other than that, they're awesome!

For anyone else that may be interested, I have another cluster identical to that but it is the "titanium" series. Click HERE

Yep, I remember we were discussing that...
Unfortunately, turns out that it is stored within the cluster itself. I was not ambitious enough to actually switch the circuit board on the back of the gauge clusters. I don't care... I know what the mileage is if I just keep track of it.
It would be nice if it were stored in the ECU though...

Nice. And get the 2 digital trip meters as well, as opposed to the 1 analog one?? This would be really good stuff.

Correct, the 98-99 instrument cluster has a built in "RAM" module that stores the mileage. I am toying with the idea of taking the cluster connectors off those totaled Maximas and matching them up with the connectors on a 95-97 Maxima. IE, connect the 95-96 illumination wire, tach wire, brake light wire, etc. to a 98-99 connector. This in turn may allow a 95-97 Maxima to use a 98-99 cluster.

so it took you about 1/2 hr. can you give me instruction to get to the instrument cluster? is there a write-up somewhere with pictures or something? thanks.
