help manual tranny experts

i just picked up a 95 max 5spd about 4 days ago.
2 days ago i grinded going into 2nd gear.
after that it feels like going into every gear is notchy.
with the clutch fully depressed i shift fron neutral to 1st and it feels like it doesnt want to go in but it does with a little more effort. it feels like that going into every gear.
but the notchy feeling goes away if from a stop i press the clutch and shift into 1st, pull out and put it back into gear.
any ideas?
thanks for any input

Well I have a 95 5spd gxe. I know that when the car is moving you can not throw it in to first because the first gear gate locks you out because your not supposed to throw it in to first when your moving. As for putting the car in gear I know what your talking about. You kind of have to put effort in to chaning gears. Sometimes when I am going in to 3rd it gets stuck. I guess its normal.

Plus, it's really worth it. It makes a world of difference (at least w/ a STS).

If double clutching helps, it could be you have some air in your clutch hydraulic line that is preventing the clutch from fully disengaging when you depress the clutch pedal only one time. Or maybe the clutch master cylinder is bad, or the slave cylinder is leaking. I doubt the problem is in the transmission itself. At least I'd look at the clutch system first and make sure it is working properly.

That's not true. You can throw the car into first without any problems. It's much harder to due smoothly, but it can be done, especially with a synthetic gear lube to help you out. If your current gear oil is low, it can also cause hard shifting as well.

Take a look at that link. It talks about how syncrhos sometimes make it harder to get into gear at certain speeds.

They've already advised you with the MT-90. That's pretty much what the problem is. The warranty will only give you the stock Nissan fluid, if they even go for it. Upgrade to MT-90, or any compatible GL-4 synthetic tranny fluid. My guess is that you live in colder climates, like New England. The notchiness increases with cold. In a hot Nevada summer, there's barely a need for MT-90, in terms of shifting feel. But in a cold Boston winter, you can't live without it. Either way, MT-90 is better, b/c in the cold, it makes shifting easier. In hot climes, it protects your gears/synchros better than the stock tranny fluid.

30s and 40s? You NEEEED this stuff

5 quarts of MT-90, not the MTL (or MTF?) The tranny fills with 4.5. You should pay ~$7-8 per quart.

So, you have a 95 Max and your screenname is 2KMax?
