grinding rear brakes

I have a 99 maxima and the passenger side rear brake has started making a griding sound when breaking, and a little bit of the same sound while driving. The wheel is covered with rust colored dust, and when I took the wheel off, there are little shreds of metal sticking all over the place along with a lot of dust. I can't figure out how to get the caliper off to see how the rear pad looks, but the rotor looks ok, not too worn and no uneven scratches or anything. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

Sounds like you are into wear sensor! Could be time for new pads.

sounds like very low pads. If it's not the pads, there is a documented problem with the rear brakes getting siezed when the e-brake cables rust up.

Hi,

Thanks for the tips. I don't think it's the wear strip, the sound is too low and grindy rather than high screeching like wear strips make.

It may be low pads, anyone know where I can find instructions on how to change the pads? I don't see how to get the calipers off...
