Possible swap?
Anybody ever think of swapping a sr20det into the 4th Gen? Granted, it's a huge drop in displacement and smoothness, but for all out speed and power it seems like a more viable choice. There would be room for bigger turbos in the bay (even two sequential ones, hmm...) and the car would be lighter AND better balanced with less weight above and away from the center of mass. Plus, I'm sure that with some custom rods and a little boring you might be able to get .5 more liters out of the sr20 while keeping the CR down. Is there any history with this swap?

I agree with BBaker...plus if your really like to push more power spend that money you would spend on that engine on a Turbo kit from Nigel (turbo97SE) and just redo the internal of the engine...and boost 20PSI!!! And you can do that with probalby less money then it cost to get the SR20DET and fabricating it to fit in the Max. (not to mention the money you would spend on bigger turbo's or even sequential turbos) And with the turbo Kit Nigel you would be pushing more at 4PSI then you would with the SR20DET motor...and it would be cheaper...Just my thoughts

The max is available in Korea as the Samsung SM520 with an SR20DE in it.
Have I ever thought about it? Yeah for a second. Then I decided if I were going to spend the money to swap in an SR20DET, I'd just turbo the VQ and get more power than I could out of the SR20 unless I really went crazy on it.
I'm not sure it would help with weight distribution a whole lot though. Turbo parts are heavy, and the SR20DET is an iron block as opposed to the VQs fairly light aluminum block. I bet the weight difference between the two isn't as much as you might think from looking at their sizes.

Wouldn't you need a special FWD tranny since the sr20det was made for the 240's which is RWD. I have a 240 SX though, its a 95 with 120,000 miles. I was going to put a sr20det but the engine, tranny, and ecu is $3,500. Plus install $$$. I'm selling it right now for $3,500, so if you wanna do a sr20det motor swap. Buy the car from me.

Yeah i know, like the 200sx uses the sr20de non turbo motor. But that tranny was made for the 200sx and wouldn't fit in a maxima.

so did i, i always thought they used iron for all factory boosted cars, but it was always aluminum. the engine used before the sr20, ca18 i think, was iron tho, ca18 was the superior engine for boost, but i guess nissan saw more profits in marketing the sr20 instead. *shrugs*
