For the kind of money you want to spend, a GXE is your best bet. If you can, find one with a 5-speed and mod the hell out of it. Good luck.

don't look for a trim level look at price,5-speed,and mileage....all trim levels will be the same once you start to mod...

if you want luxery get a 95-96 GLE, if you want basic speed get a 5speed GXE, if you want speed and luxery get a fully equipped 5speed SE you should get black on black, not that i am biase towards my own color

Yeah dude if I were lookin for a used 4th gen as cheap as possible, I'd be shopping for a 97 5-speed GXE.

it's all depend how much to want to spend,95-96 would be cheaper,5sp is better but very hard to find,i would chose gxe or se for max performance, gle has leather for luxery and comfort.

You can get leather www.leatherseats.com. Don't let leather be a deciding factor

I don't know if the $5000 you mentioned is all your spending or not.
The best 4th gen(well I guess it's a 4th gen) is a 96 I30t 5-speed. Loaded more than any GLE, manual trans, and SE suspension. If you really think about it the car has every thing.

no,i am not letting the leather be my deciding factor, the se has leather too,but i am just saying the factory gle trim is a bit more heavy and luxury than the gxe or se with the leather.i almost buy the gle myself before, but i think for a 95-96 the leather is 6-7 yrs old already,so i end up buying the 96 se w/o the leather.

97 maxes

I dunno how important this is to you, but no one else brought it up - anything pre 97 can have the ecu reprogrammed, and 97s can too, but you have to get a 96 ecu and wiring harness. 98 or 99 (like me) has no ecu alternative that I know of. Also, 97s have the more aggressive style front grill and bumper. In my opinion a 97 se 5 spd is your best bet (GXEs have speed limiter and GLEs are auto). Or you might not care.

budget constraint?

95 or 96 if you think spending under $8000

97 if you think spending below $9500

Personally, I would get a low mileage 95 and use extra $1000+ for modding...which I'm currently doing

But 97-99 front looks better, only very slightly little bitty bit.

Auto tranny w/o abuse lasts lifetime. Manual tranny with abuse lasts but a second. duh.

I'm curious after visiting your homepage as to what 'Mugen' drivetrain parts you had fitted to the '91?

I just want to thank everyone for the info I have looked at a 98 se 5 speed its fast as ****. But i kinda like this one 97 gxe auto. See I am afraid to get a 5 speed cause everyone beats the **** out of the cluch and once you replace that the car never runs the same. The 98 se 5 speed with leather is running for 10,500 with 56,000 miles on it. The 97 gxe with leather is running for 6,500 with 80,000 miles on it. I know these maximas last long but I really dont want to get the wrong one and end up paying just for it to start. I guess buying a used car is a roll of the dice. Thanks again guys

clutch

Oh, you'll catch the bug and mod the clutch eventually. Lots of people have done it here, and I haven't seen any complaints yet. 5 spd keeps your options open.

Whats worse is you'll try and bust me out when I spelled it right.
But enjoy the pictures anyway.

I would get a base 97+ 5-speed SE or SE-L if you can find one. They look better than the 95-96. The SE's also have a better look to them from the factory. They handle a little better as well. I would defenatly get a 5-speed though. That was my mistake, I saw my dream Maxima at a good price and jumped on it.

Try to get one with low miles. DEFENATY: If you plan to mod your sound system, DON'T GET BOSE! It's a real pain.

Good Luck!

Dude, get what you see fit for you. My .02 is the peace of mind in an automatic with low miles for the year. Can't go wrong with a 97 Super black SE 48,000, Automatic. Drove three hours to buy it.
