About to do engine swap... question

I have almost 160k on my engine, running nos, sc, and VI. I dont think its gonna give me many more miles, so i'm gonna go ahead and blow it. I have an engine sitting in my garage with 50k on it, but its from a '96. my car is a '95. After hooking up the J&S safeguard, i learned that the pins on the '95 ecu are different on a '96 ecu. So will this be a direct swap, or will I need to get a '96 ecu? I really want to find this out before I get a kick out of blowing my engine up. anyone?

Re: About to do engine swap... question

Should still be a direct swap in spite of the ECU differences. I would recommend reusing your original intake manifold, though, or at very least carefully examining the one on the new engine to make sure the EVAP purge, idle, etc connectors are all the same. At very worst you may need to swap some sensors from your engine into the new one, but I'm not aware of any differences between the two years besides the ECU.

95 Maxima's made in 94 have diff ECU from late model 95's and 96's.. shouldn't be a problem.. you should be able to use your 96 ECU no problems anyway.. or even the 95..

do you know what production date is the motor?

little plate in the engine bay should say it, no? Or do you need to decode the VIN?

a few things..

1) are you going to need any help changing the VI over? have you noticed the VI not working?

2) can I video tape the "blowing motor" part?

the VI is working fine.. i'm hoping that i can put it on the other motor before i drop it in. and yes you can video tape it. i'll just pull the main jet out of my nos, and spray in 1st gear until it blows... that should make for a good video i'll probably do it the 1st week in nov. because that is when my last race of the year is.

Why did you swap to a '96 ecu?
