Y-pipe sound opinion
#3
If you have a stock exhaust system.. It will be louder when you first start the car. It will rumble a bit like an aftermartket exhaust.. When its warm. The tone of the exhaust will be a bit deeper than stock. While cruising, you won't know its there. When you floor it.. You will hear a cool hissing sound.. =) I don't have any of the rattling buzzing sound that some guys complain of.

Any help would be GREAT! (don't want her to sound like an annoying Civic)

Having ridden in cars with both, when comparing a Stillen vs the Cattman stainless steel y-pipe,
the Cattman is very quiet WOT or cruising.
You will without a doubt hear the stillen when hitting the gas, but it is better behaving when cruising- though a buzzing is inherent at 2000-3000RPM.
If you are concerned about noise levels, then Cattman SS is the way to go.
If you don't care about noise, but the quality of the sound, I think the Stillen sounds pretty good...low and beefy not high and tinny as in a Civic.

Which stillen pipe did you hear? I have the new universal pipe. No noise at 2k RPM, no buzzing, no rattles. If you have the radio off.. You can hear a slight wooosh sound though..

yea, from what I've heard, the new stillen universal y-pipe is much quieter than the old ones. I have one of the new ones, and I don't notice any of the problems (can o bees, annoying buzzing sounds) that other people have had. Mine just has a slightly deeper exhaust note, but that's about it. Sounds nice to my ears. I'm just worried that it's gonna rust in spots, but luckily it hasn't happened yet.

I have the new universal stillen y-pipe,
and it sounds like a Turbocharged weed wacker,luckuly header rap seemed to quiet it down some but still not enough ohh well the extra power is more important to me then the BUZZZZ noise.{note I have all exaust components which makes it more notacable}

Hmm..you're right ZuM! The one I was riding in had the older, non-universal y-pipe for a 96. So the new one is much quieter huh? Interesting....
