Clutch makes screeching sound when disengaged in first. why?
Clutch makes screeching sound when disengaged in first. why?
Hey guys,
This doesn't happen too often. Thankfully!
What happens basically is this: I come to a stop. When I put it in first, I let off the brake and press lightly on the gas while letting the clutch out... Sometimes the front makes a weird eeeeerrrkkk type of sound, as if metal on metal or something.
this doesn't happen tooo often. It's hapenned 2 or 3 times in the last couple months.
Anyone have an idea what could be the cause?
Brakes not disengaging fast enough, even though I haven't had my foot on the brake for atleast a second or so? Clutch problem?
Curious if anyone has experienced this problem before.
Thanks

I still can't really tell from searches I've done...does a bad throwout bearing usually cause some vibration-type feel in the clutch pedal? My noise is only at a certain point of disengagement in the clutch (almost instantly before the release point) - it's more of a rumble than an "eeeeerrrrrk" though.
I can sit there and hold the clutch/gas at the same points and let it rumble & vibrate the pedal until I lift off the clutch a little more. I always thought my t/o bearing was shot. Multiplexor - can you do this, or does the noise happen real quick & go away?

Re: Clutch makes screeching sound when disengaged in first. why?
I think you are experiencing "clutch groan" which is common with the OEM clutch. Only happens with 1st gear(occasionally reverse) and not all the time. Do a search on "groan" and you should see a lot of entries. As long as you don't here it in higher gears, you are fine. Aftermarket clutches usually don't have this groan.
