I like my new frankencar but...

it's too loud at WOT...way too loud.
driving around town it's OK, but I want it quieter...ideas???

I'm thinking of wraping the intake with something to deaden the noise -
like more rubber? foam? 5 rags tied together?

Or, is it just the popcharger? and so I have no choice?

I like power, but I LOVE being a sleeper...

all ideas are appreciated.

remember that the hybrid intakes are louder inside the car. It is not as loud to other drivers as you think.
The fact that it is quiet at low rpm's and louder at WOT is perfect IMO. Take out the midpipe and the noise will reduce a little.

Yeah, stop your whining...

It's still a sleeper car. Jeez...

I like smart *** remarks like the next guy...

but puh-lease!!!

anyhow, if anyone is actually interested in helping me out,
here's what I'm thinking:

-- take a rubber tube, that is just bigger than the mid-pipe now.
-- cut said tube in half.
-- drill in whatever holes I need to for hoses.
-- clamp on the rubber over the existing intake.

***Does this sound like it would work?
***Is the majority of the screaming from the mid-pipe or the popcharger?

Just looking for some advice...I can make my car as quiet as I want,
and I don't need ppl hating on what I want -- you want a screamer?
Great - go for it...I don't...and there's nothing wrong with that.

later y'all.

Sorry, there's no real way to make a hybrid or POP that much quieter. It's just the design of the setup. Removing the midpipe will make the intake even more raspy. The noise is due largely to fact that there are no resonators and the intake in open and under the hood. With the VIM, intakes a quite a bit quieter. I reinstalled my Poorman's CAI (was running the HKS hybrid) and the intake noise is perfect. It's deep, but only 50% as loud as a hybrid.

Your sig says you have a Y-pipe.... aren't u loud to the point the intake doesn't make a difference? Eh well i don't know, I have a 5-spd and the frankencar actually makes the car more quieter by dampening the sound of the throttle body.

Yeah, I have a Y-pipe (go Budget! ) but, it was never that loud...
I think that part of my problem is that the sound coming out of the
intake sounds like something is ripping, and not that it is something
deep and mean...

I still think I can get it quieter!!!

Line the inside of your engine bay with Dynamat or some sound deadning material.

I plan on selling my Frankencar mid-pipe in a week or so. It has about 80 miles on it...new, but seems brand new. I decided to try and sample a couple of intake options. I'm very happy with the increase power, sound, and driveablity. But one gripe is the fitment just barely fits the stock lower air box. I plan on doing a write up in month after I've tested a few setups.

my exhaust is loud but as soon as i go WOT you cant hardly hear it. the hybrid is pretty loud, i was driving next to an old lady going down the highway one day and for some reason or another i went WOT and she freaked out and swerved in her lane.

Flo, I have a popcharger in my car. I thought it was scary loud when I installed it on friday. I left the bottom of the stock air intake box there. The box that I got my cone filter in had a bunch of crumpled up newspaper in it. I just took one of those and crunched it down and put it right under the lip end of the cone. It seemed to have quieted it down some. I put it there so that the intake wouldn't sag and to dampen any vibrations that the maf sensor might get. But it also quieted it down a little. It doesn't look really clean, but it does work well. I also got 32 mpg on my last tank. I was pretty impressed that a v6 could get that type of mileage. It was highway mileage though. Good luck. Hope this helps.

I don't know if header wrap on the pipe might help. Don't have a pipe myself. Still have acordian section.

you need to take put the resonator back in to reduce the "noise" your name is Flo-Boy but you don't want more flow.....power is noisy ever watched NASCAR,NHRA or heard a turbo spool up..or Blow-off valve?

You know, one thing I tested was that a Monsterflow filter is quieter under WOT than a K&N. Cant say how much quieter but it seems like foam filters muffle the tone you hear.

mine is not that loud at all. sounds very good. My midpipe is shorter tat the frankencar only about 8-10 inches. This is les metal to resonate. Try using some 3" to 3" flex couplers from the hardware store. They look pretty good and are thicher rubber than the ones that come with the frankencar. These will dampen more vibrations.

Its the pop-charger. Put the stock airbox assembly back on with the mid pipe... It sounds cool.

well if you put the stock airbox back in with the frankencar midpipe part of the noise will be lessened.
