transmission noises

I was changing the egr solenoid on my 96 max, I changed the cv joint last week, but never drove the hard afterwards. upon starting the car and shifting to R, I got this really scary loud noise from the transmission, I also checked and noticed the cv joint I installed, the boot was off the joint and grease was coming out, what could have caused this noise? It almost felt as if something was dropped in the trans, I looked around and couldn't see anything, i'm afraid to start it again and try to shift, i'm going to check the codes for ECU tom, let me know if you guys can come up with something.

You didn't seat the splined shaft into the CV joint far enough for the "C" clip to grap. When you put the car in gear, the drive shaft slipped right out of the CV joint & grinded against the joint slightly (noise) and ripped your boot right off spilling all your grease out again.

Make sure that the splined shaft snaps into place. You'll feel the "C" clip grab and the shaft should not move outwards by hand anymore. I'm suprised you got the shaft back in and the hub back in place without that shaft being seated all the way. It must have been a very tight fit, which should have been your clue that something wasn't right.

thanks guys, now though, the key seems to not want to turn to start the car, maybe it tripped the security sytem somehow? When I get inside with the key in the ignition, with the doors closed, the security light was still blinking, how do I fix this? Thanks.

Jerk the wheel side to side while fiddling with the key.
