which type of pop-charger/intake is the most effective for the Maxima? I've heard about the Tech-5 ones for $80(which people claim to be as good as a jim wolf one). what other choices do i have, that can compete with Tech-5's price? thanks

The main reason for the difference in pricing is the design of the adapters. The JWT and Stillen have designed their adapters to also function as venturi stacks while the generic ones are just adapter. Also, the Stillen and JWT filters have a wider base at the adapter area, so the filter fills up the available area more efficiently rather than the smaller generic filters (usually just a straight cylinder shape).

I've had the JWT cone for a year now, and so far no problems at all. Installation was a breeze. I've never even heard of tech-5. If you get the JWT, you will not regret it.

I agree . . .

Don't mess with a generic intake setup. Get a JWT Popcharger or an SI. They're custom designed for the Max.

I'm pretty sure you can get it from Courtesy Nissan for around $120 shipped. If you do want to go with a Stillen, I'm sure Phuong (got rice?) can hook you up with a good price.

You should look into and consider getting one which has the venturi stack yes, but the install should include a place to mount the oem air flow/temp sensor which is on the oem air box. I think Stillen's has it but maybe the others do not. Phuong can help you get any of them. Not sure if the JWT has the place to mount or not. There's another thread on this I was reading recently where it was stated that the JWT didn't have the mount for the aforementioned sensor.

Well let's nail this down . . .

Hey Phuong. Does the JWT Popcharger contain the mount for the temp sensor?

I did some calling around today to get a definate answer on this. The thing is that some 97-99 Maximas have an air intake temp sensor while others don't. Stillen made an opening for the temp sensor but then they didn't then they did. JWT does not have an opening (it has something to do with CARB approval.. CARB would not approve unless there was an opening for the air temp sensor).

confusing, eh?

Air intake

I would think the pop charger would be better than just the tech 5 b/c i have one of those and it messes up my paint when my intake moves up and down during MAD acceleration. I'm thinking of getting one two. I know Cattman has a sale on the intake for 90.00 just till friday. So look for him and email him.

A trip to Home Depot and a bored afternoon = custom bracket! the intake needs a little more support (Stillen has two brackets, JWT has one). Most likely, the generic setups aren't using any.
