What will it take...M3 and S4?!?

Hey,

To make a long story short, my fiance and I went out to dinner with one of her relatives last night and she invited us to come stay with her for a little while, over the summer, at her house in Philidelphia. Her husband is not only a doctor, but ownes a ferarri dealership. She said I would be able to drive ANY car that I wanted to...Sorry, had to throw that in there for the jelousy factor, here's where my question comes in...

Her son's, both about my age, are both in college, no jobs, yet, one drives a new M3, and the other a new S4. I drive a Maxima, poor in comparison. I'd really like to be able to put up a good fight at the track when we go up there this summer, and I'm looking for input on what you guys think. Is it possible? What do you think it will take? Any other advice??

This is something that should be a fun task to complete over the next 7-8 months, so it's plenty of time. All input is appreciated, thanks.

Maybe get your Maxima's windows tinted very dark, buy a ski mask, and car jack someone in a new C32 AMG.

Much more realistic than trying to take out an M3 or an S4.

Gotta love that n00b, ignorant advice. There are several people on the ORG that have maxima's that will take an M3 or S4 (stock, of course), and that is who I am looking to receive responses from, or at least people with something of substance to say.

I said I was looking to put up a good fight, of course winning would be great, but I'd love to just be able to surprise them with a tight race.

simple solution...fork out $4200 for a full TURBO KIT...333hp M3(overweight whale) vs 250hp S4(overweight whale) vs 350hp Maxima

Appreciate the response...I was looking into the turbo. But I couldn't decide between the S/C and the turbo. I'll definetly be running a 100 shot of NOS as soon as my new fuel pump comes in...Any other suggestions?

after reading a bunch of nos threads, i recommend a max 75 shot...

though if your only using it once i guess 100 shot couldn't hurt?

oh... i woud get a MeVI also ;-)

What year is your Maxima?
Stick Shift or Auto?
First get the basics:
-Intake
-Y-pipe
-if you want get the full exhaust it won't do as much as the Y-pipe but its like 3-5 HP but if you have the turbo it will make a bigger difference and you will get more HP out of it
-underdrive Pulley

If its a 4th Generation 95-99 I recomend that turbo kit, it is pretty impresive!
If the turbo kit is to expensive get a Supercharger

If it was me I would Run the Nos after I get the Turbo or Supercharger

My cousin Has a manual 2001 s4 he ran a 14.4 Stock when he just chipped it, it got down to 13.3
That is amazing

unless you get some sort of forced induction, the M3 will rape you in the a$$. and unless the s4 driver cant launch for shiet, the s4 will also add to your raping.

I found out a little more info... I took her out to lunch today, and she was telling me that both of her sons cars are leased, so that leads me to believe that MAJOR performance mods on either one of their cars are out of the question. I was talking with her about both of their last cars (also leased), one had a Z3, and the other had an AMG C-class mercedes. Their only mods on those cars were tint, rims, and a different muffler (on the Z), also upgraded stereos...

So, I am feeling very confident that I may be able to beat the S4, and at least put up a good fight with the M3. BTW, it's a 1996 Maxima SE, AUTO but I have seen some fast auto's in my 3 years on this site!

Well getting raped is not my idea of a fun "Summer Vacation"

heavy mods

intake + exhaust
pulley if 5spd

turbo or supercharger and on top of that run 100 shot.

That should give you the slight (est hp 430 at crank) advantage over the other ants

or sell that maxima and get 300ZX TT with light mods (twin pop + exhaust + ecu = 410 HP crank) add boost control +50-60 HP, etc etc.

But stock TT with decent driver will own s4 and m3, unless they too are heavily modded.

are you guys joking?? what are you trying to prove?? its a maxima. a STOCK car vs a heavily modded (older than the other 2 cars) maxima just to keep up?? ok, so the S4 puts a $500 chip in it, and hands you your *** again. you have an auto maxima. accept it or buy a faster car. i love my car, but its by no means anything close to a fast car.

If you go for at least the MEVI then you will be able to have power up to redline. Your gonna need it if you plan on taking them on. Any mods after the MEVI will only help more but number one is breathing up top.

I have to disagree. I think that the maxima is a very fast car and you can make it even faster.
I mean we have:
UL flywheel
UD pulley
turbo
exhaust
intake
mevi
chip
etc.

I think that we mod our cars because it's much funner than going out and buying an actual sports car. M3's and S4's are fast but I think that if he modded his car that he could beat them. even more so with NOS.

and they can do the same with their cars. he has an auto... dont see how the flywheel will help him in this case. we dont have a "chip" we do have an ECU. and its not as effective on our car because we dont have stock "boost" to turn up. we have a quick car that can be made faster. S4 is a Fast car that can be made faster. there is a difference.

And it is less expected when you blow the doors off of a "actual sports car"

Oh christ...

I hope you're racing in a straight line, because you'll lose in the twisties. The ///M3 was not designed to be a straight line racer but it does put up some decent numbers (5.5 sec 0-60 for the e36 and 4.7 secs for the e46). The S4 is roughly comparable to the WRX in terms of acceleration. It is VERY easy to modify an S4, but you're still looking at a 3800 lb car. To conclude my story, neither the Max or the ///M3 were designed for the quarter mile, but if you want to take it out you'll need a lot of money to dump into the car (forced injection). Don't forget that the blokes in FL (www.activeautowerke.com) do a hell of a job with FI in the M's. Some folks are running well over 400 hp in their vehicles. But anyways, racing in a straight line is boring. Last week I took the e36 up in the mountains on slightly wet roads, THAT was fun. Something I would never think about doing in the max.

Thanks for the heads-up on the guys down here in FLA...

We were going to take it to the track, so I guess it would be a straight line race.

Remember, this is just for fun, little competition between future family members, and I have to hold the respectability and reputation of the MAXIMA on my shoulders, lol. But I really appreciate all of the advice in this thread, and I'm going to go with the turbo!!!

Any other advice is greatly appreciated, keep it comming!

Definitly get the turbo, Y-Pipe, full exhaust, and a NOS setup and go represent the MAXIMA scene...Good luck Man

Thank you...Thank you...I hope I represent, and represent well!

I still think the 5sp tranny is not needed, as I think the fastest Maxima on the ORG is auto

But either way, the turbo, and NOS is a good platform, and I just found out that neither one of their cars is modified for performance.

YES!!!!

Sorry but the S4 weighs about 3500-3600 pounds depending on options, tranny, etc. Not 3800 pounds, and yes a chipeed S4 will run low to mid 13's. I have a friend with a 2001 S4 that ran 14.1's stock and with a chip dropped down to 13.2-13.3 !!! Just with a chip and good gas, but why try to race these guys ?? There will always be cars faster than you no matter how much money you put into your car. I would say just do an intake, VB mod if your car is an auto, exhaust, and MEVI, then race them, you may lose but you may win, they may not know how to drive their cars. Don't spend too much $$$ just to prove a point that your car is faster than theirs.

You're absoluetly correct...THAT'S IT...SHUT DOWN THE ORG, JULIAN HAS MADE US SEE THE LIGHT!

Lol, actually, I was going to mod my car anyway, but now I have a friendly competition to look forward to, and I was just asking for input from fellow community members on their opinions. I enjoy hearing what other people think, just for the sake of my own knowledge. I appreciate your opinion, and of course if I was spending the $$$ just to prove a point, it would be a very ill-proven point, considering they could spend a couple hundred bucks and do the same thing, but it's more just for the fun, knowledge, and experience.

Nothing too shabby about having a 13 second daily-driver maxima.

A FULL EXHAUST will not do as much as just a Y-PIPE? You mean it, the other way around right? Or am I missing something here?

Doesn't the "full exhaust" job consist of a y-pipe as one of its components?

Which it's not.

So you are going to blow $4 g's to MAYBE run well with these kids at a track for an hour or so? You called them 'future family members'. I haven't seen anywhere here that you talked this up or were challenged in any way. You just feel you have to make your car somewhere in the same league as these 2 kids.

I think it's safe to say keep the money, I'm sure they aren't looking for you to impress them with your car mods.

Why are you lingering on this comment anyway?

no lingering here. i just though his advice was pretty good.

Factory specs = .1-.2 seconds difference in 0-60 time.
that's factory specs. find out the fastest stock auto vs. the fastest stock 5spd and see if they're .1-.2 seconds different.

Hopefully, a MEVI will allow me to remain in each gear up to redline, just like I was driving stick, but I'll have to look more into that.
a MEVI will make it worth you while to stay in each gear until redline, but you will have to manually shift your auto if you want to take advantage of this.

I still think the 5sp tranny is not needed, as I think the fastest Maxima on the ORG is auto
but if he was 5spd he would be that much faster
