I have a V1 SC. The piping goes as follow: 2.5" WSP ypipe to a 2.5" WSP test pipe to an Apexi WS cat-back exhaust. I haven't measure it, but some people said the bpipe section on the Apexi is only 2.25", but the muffler itself is 2.5", so how much is the 2.25" bpipe section holding me back/if any? I rather not buy another cat-back system that is 2.5" all the way through like the Greddy SP for example. Is there anyone out there that sells a 2.5" bpipe section? The Stillen one is 2.25" I think.

I mean the B-pipe itself is only a 2HP mod to start with. So the difference in that .25 of an inch difference when you look at it cost wise will probably not matter. I mean really are you going to gain maybe another 1-2 hp for an extra couple hundred bucks?

You are probably right.

Since your not N/A it might be robbing you of more than you think. I had the same concerns about getting the Apexi WS, which is 2.25, but I realisticly am not going to get a blower or Nitrous.
I agree a B-pipe is only worth 3, maybe 4, HP if you are N/A. Just guessing but you may be missing out on close to 10 or so since your supercharged. Your having to move a lot more air out of your exhaust than I am.

I agree with I30tMikeD.
Even my tuner recommended that I go with Greddy (2.50) versus Apexi (2.25) exhaust after I got the SC.

I"m getting a S/C V2 for my car.

I have an Apex'I WS... catback only. Should I get the entire thing changed?

Stillen recommended not getting a Y-pipe, but everything after that is OK.

What is the deal?!

Wha? Stillen recommended staying with a stock y? Surely for legal, cover-your-a** purposes only. Maybe you didn't hear the wink-wink nudge-nudge over the phone. An aftermarket y alone is better than all the rest put together.

Yea,

I kept prying, and prying. He said that the Y puts out too much HP for the engine, or some Jazz like that.

Are you auto? Stupid, I mean Stillen doesn't recommend a sc + auto tranny, as the sc put the auto at it's limits. Add the Y and it's worse. But you can do the VB mod etc.. to compensate for that.

Consider this, the 2.25 has a cross-sectional area of 3.97 square inches. The 2.5 is 4.90 square inches.

All other things being equal there is a potential for 23% more CFM with the larger pipe.

But do you really think it is as high as 10 HO for the difference?

No, that's the thing! I am a 5SPD. I commented on how I don't have a Y and he said Don't. I asked him why, and his response was that it was too much power for the car to handle... I couldn't believe him, since MardigrasMax is boosted and NOSed......

Are they trying to play a poor Philippino/Italian boy?!

Maybe he thinks it's too much power for me to handle... whellll I'll show him!

In all sincerity, the Y won't hurt the car w/ a S/C right?

Oh, then he's full of bull@#$@. The Y is not something that puts MORE strain on the engine. If anything(during normal running), it put LESS stress on the engine. Higher efficency and all etc..

You can also go with the Warpspeed Y-pipe. Heard good things about it.

I heard that we might trip a CEL light with these, b/c Budget did something to "trick" one of the O2 sensors. I did read the post that NJMax had on it.....

If there aren't any CEL lights, then I'm game!

I might be wrong about this but I thought any manufacturer's high-flow intake & y-pipe would trip the CEL light. Perhaps Cali-spec versions of the y-pipe trips a code other than what a non-Cali spec Maxima would normally see. When I installed my JWT pop & Budget y-pipe, my CEL light was tripped (can't recall which specific one). But all it took me was a reset on the ECU to deal with that.

I have never had a CEL. I have a pop intake, Stillen Y-pipe, and hi-flow cat. I just ordered the Stillen B-pipe this week and I can't wait for it to get here. I'm expecting a noticeable difference in power because my stock B has a small (one inch) hole near the resonator and has a leak at the connection to the muffler. I think I'm losing noticeable power because of these two leaks. We'll see once I get it in there. One more thing, is the Stillen B 2.25 or 2.5? I was under the impression it was 2.5, but to be honest I never really checked it out before I ordered it.

Nope.
  • The JWT pop went on Dec. 2001. Code came up, reset done & okay since.
  • Budget exhaust system (non-Cali spec) installed Sept. 2002, some code came up; did reset & has been fine since also.

If any of you are supercharged, turbo'd, etc... there's a deal on a completely mandrel bent, TIG welded, stainless, custom 3.0" cat back in the 'for sale' forums for $300. He says it originally cost $1100 to fabricate.

THAT one shouldn't hold anyone back too much.

Good Luck!

Just go with 2.5 unless you plan on Turbo with 2 digit boost levels!!
My Fed-spec Budget Y-pipe has NOT thrown any CEL
They ONLY thing that threw the CEL was the Test Pipe which replaced the catalytic converter.

Thanks DashingMax,

My car is a Cali spec, and I know that budget did something different w/ that Y pipe (NJMax had a thread on this a little whilte back). Something to the effect of "tricking" the ECU to thinking that all 4 o2 sensors are working, but in actuality, 2 of the 4 o2 sensors are on the same bank...

Check your PM, I had another ? for you. Thanks!
