I wanted to know if anyone has had that problem, if so what was it exactly and how was it fixed. If the car needed to be brought to the dealer, approx. how much did it cost..?

I had that problem with my 98 before. It ended up being the side air bag module. they replaced under warranty.

 

After reading a few threads, I figured that there was something I did wrong in the process... The first time I attempted to reset the air bag ecu I took my sweet time. One post specified that the second you put the key in the ignition and turn it to on, you have to press that button at least 10 times within 7 seconds, and that made the difference.

If you press it 7 times, it looks like it enters in diag mode, cause the blinking was slower. I attemted the whole thing a second time, pressing 10 times... I guess the turn to off close the doors and starting the car again is not part of the do process but I did it and it worked. If you're reading this and you are wondering what button I am talking about, its a the rubber switch your door hits and shuts the lights off inside the car...
